As an Early-Career Water Resources Engineer in San Diego, CA, you will have the opportunity to apply your academic knowledge to real-world situations while solving our clients permitting, compliance, and water quality challenges related to National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES), Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs), and land use and development as driven by federal, state, and local requirements, and to address the changing landscape in water management driven by climate change. You will develop a wide range of field and office experience related to field investigations, water quality sampling, data analysis, and reporting while also learning the business skills needed for a successful consulting career.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Is this the right position to help you achieve your professional goals? Some of the key responsibilities for the position include:

  • Hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) analysis and modeling;
  • Design of stormwater BMPs (infiltration-based and flow-through treatment controls) and related hydraulic structures (e.g., stormwater diversion, pump stations, storage);
  • Field investigations, monitoring, and data collection;
  • Spatial analysis (GIS), database management, and programming;
  • Technical document preparation, including technical writing and creation of exhibits and maps;
  • Supporting projects driven by the CA Construction General Permit (CGP), CA Industrial General Permit (IGP), and local Municipal Separate Storm Sewer Systems (MS4) Permits including inspections, reporting, preparation of Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs), Water Quality Improvement Plans (WQIPs), and Waste Discharge Requirement (WDR) permit preparation; and
  • Supporting preparation of environmental documents per the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA); and permits pursuant to Section 404 of the Clean Water Act (CWA); Section 401 of the CWA and the Porter-Cologne Water Quality Control Act; and Section 1602 of the California Fish and Game Code.

  • Hybrid Work Program: This position is eligible for participation in Geosyntec s hybrid work program which gives employees the flexibility to work remotely for either 2 or 3 days per week. Participation in the hybrid work program is not required.
  • Training: This position requires OSHA health and safety, defensive driving certification, first aid, and CPR training and medical monitoring, paid for by the firm. We also offer professional development opportunities including in-house seminars, webinars, and mentoring, that allow our professionals to build the technical and business skills necessary to become successful consultants.
  • Fieldwork: Up to 20%
  • Overnight travel: Up to 10%

EDUCATION AND LICENSURE

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental or civil engineering; geology; or environmental science. (required)
  • Advanced degree in environmental or civil engineering; geology; or environmental science. (preferred)
  • Engineering in Training (EIT) certification. (preferred)
  • Qualified SWPPP Practitioner (QSP) certification. (preferred)

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Prior internship or work experience in environmental consulting (required)
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to learn on the job (required)
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills. (required)
  • A general understanding of stormwater BMPs (selection, performance, and design). (preferred)
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements related to stormwater management and land use development. (preferred)
  • Knowledge of CA CGP, IGP, and MS4. (preferred)
  • Knowledge of CEQA, 401, 404, 1602 permits. (preferred)
  • Experience with modeling and design software tools such as HydroCAD, SWMM, HEC-RAS, RUSLE2, ArcGIS, and AutoCAD. (preferred)
  • Valid U.S. driver s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)

Below are the potential compensation ranges that we in good faith believe are applicable for this role at the time of this posting and are only applicable for jobs to be performed in the specified California locations below. The typical base salary range for this position is just one component of Geosyntec s total compensation package for employees. Based on state and federal requirements, this position may be hourly and overtime-eligible or salaried eligible for straight-time overtime. Actual compensation will be determined based on education, experience, skill set and location.

  • Minimum Wage: $29.81/hour or $64,480/yearly / Maximum Wage: $31.00/hour or $77,505/yearly (San Diego)
