Job description
This is an AmeriCorps national service position. It is contingent on funding and open until filled. The AmeriCorps Member will facilitate environmental stewardship by engaging communities and partners in opportunities that help develop community stewards, support sustainable environmental education, and restore/protect wildlife habitat. This project allows us to further the reach and accessibility of our outreach programs; helps connect Washington families with valuable resources, and environmental stewardship/education opportunities. One of this positions greatest value is its ability to allow our program offerings to reach further into communities with disparities, thus providing our office with the foundation to increase our program and volunteer base. This project helps to create additional, established relationships/community contacts and an expanded supply of trained volunteers that are able to then advance and continue this work after the service term has ended. Returning again as a WSC partner gives us the capacity to maintain and strengthen what are now established partnerships, program accessibility, and regional opportunities which have taken numerous terms to foster and develop, but even more importantly, allows the Pacific Regional Office to build upon those community relationships and offerings in such a way that advances our ability to serve our ever-growing program participant base while also making our services available to previously unreached demographics. Utilizing the framework and information of prior projects, this new project allows for even more focused and purposeful outreach activities, greater capacity to access and serve diverse demographics where there still remains an unmet need, as well as identification (or continuation) of new (established), mutually beneficial partners.
Member Duties : The AmeriCorps Member will build the project’s capacity with volunteer recruitment, trainings, and coordination. These newly trained volunteers help us in the local community, state and at the national level to protect and restore wildlife habitat and to connect people especially kids with nature. The AmeriCorps Member will recruit these volunteers and connect them with our Habitat Stewards training program and our Garden for Wildlife resources and then engage them in local habitat related opportunities that meet their interest and community need. The member will also connect with previously trained volunteers and offer support and networking.
