JOB DESCRIPTION
TEACHER

PROFESSIONALISM:
1. Have on file a valid Minnesota teaching certificate and maintain continuing education credits and records.
2. Be directly responsible to the principal and work within the prescribed limits of school policies and procedures.
3. Be committed to the teacher’s daily schedule.
4. Dress in a professional manner.
5. Keep informed of recent research in education, e.g. professional reading and workshops.
6. Accept assignments in curriculum study, development, evaluation and review as assigned by the principal.
7. Use opportunities to share any knowledge gained through attendance at seminars and workshops with other faculty meetings.
8. Work as a team member and actively participate in faculty meetings, workshops and group projects.
9. Participate in family, school, parish and community activities, e.g. school breakfast, school auction.
10. Accept assignments from the principal as they relate to extra duties, e.g. periodically working with additional students and outdoor supervision.
11. Respect the confidentiality of student records and any private information relating to any student at St.

Mary’s School.

SPIRITUALITY:
1. Develop an understanding of spirituality enabling one to share this with students and staff through faith sharing.
2. Conduct personal affairs and behaviors in such a way as to provide students with a positive role model consistent with Catholic values.
3. Participate in faculty faith sharing, e.g. faculty study group and annual retreat.
4. Provide instruction consistent with and supportive of Catholic doctrine and theology.
5. Be knowledgeable in the preparation of Children’s Liturgies and use that expertise in planning liturgies.

PREPARATION:
1. Participate in developing the school’s mission and philosophy statements and community of faith program for the year.
2. Develop along with other staff member’s philosophies and objectives, and rubrics for each curricular area.
3. Assist in developing school curriculum and implementing appropriate instructional materials and strategies.
4. Evaluate existing and prospective texts and materials for instruction.
5. Prepare an attractive and neat classroom setting.
6. Arrange in advance for all needed materials and equipment for teaching classes.

INSTRUCTION:
1. Provide instruction in all areas of the curriculum as directed by the principal, and follow the curriculum guidelines of the school.
2. Motivate, instruct, and evaluate learning and repeat skills as needed.
3. Use varied methods and materials including technology in class presentations and adjust teaching style to accommodate individual learning styles of the students.

4. Recognize and provide for individual differences: gifted students and challenged students.
5. Facilitate student goal setting challenging each one according his/her potential.
6. Help students develop self-esteem through goal setting, responsibility, self-discipline and good work habits.
7. Foster decision-making skills and creativity in children.
8. Promote social justice in school, community and world areas. Foster a sensitivity and respect for world cultures.
9. Set up a physical environment for effective instruction: bulletin boards, learning centers and devices.

MANAGEMENT/COMMUNICATION:
1. Use positive class management and discipline procedures that enhance learning.
2. Participate in and support the school discipline plan.
3. Keep classroom in an order that enhances learning.
4. Attend to student safety and well being by supervising students at all times.
5. Regularly communicate with parents using our school portal and e-mail and phone when necessary.
6. Keep daily attendance records and take lunch and milk count.
7. Hand out and collect parent communication materials.
8. Keep an accurate accounting of student grades.
9. Work as an active team member with the principal and fellow staff communicating on schedules, instruction, projects and events, etc.
10. Work closely with Chapter one teacher and specialists.
11. Refer any potential speech, EBD, Special Education or physically challenged students to the appropriate specialists for diagnosis and implementation of individual educational plan.
12. Participate in Child Study Team Conferences and assist in interpreting findings to others.
13. Prepare for parent teacher conferences by completing the designated reports and meaningfully communicating with parents and students.
14. Provide diagnosis and educational options for struggling students, communicating frequently with parents concerning the day-to-day implementation of an educational/behavioral plan.
15. Submit a written report on all serious school accidents or confrontations involving students.
16. Complete cumulative folders and reports on his/her students at the end of the academic year.
17. Maintain an accurate inventory of texts, equipment and classroom materials.
18. Exercise respect for furniture, equipment, books, materials, school building and grounds and greater environment.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $30,076.00 - $40,000.00 per year
