This is responsible professional library work in providing library programs for children and young adults and in performing other professional duties in the library system. The works involves coordination and presentation of programming, book selection, user service and direction of library personnel and volunteers.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Prepares children's and young adult programs and presents them throughout the system, including the Summer Library Program. Maintains display/informational boards in all 3 branches. Collection development. Collection and reporting data to the state library for grants and the summer library youth program. Give talks to civic and educational groups. Directs library staff and volunteers as directed by the Library Director. Participates in material selection, especially children's materials. Aids in technical services including order preparation and cataloging. Keeps informed or advanced and changes in the field. Requires own transportation. Works closely with other staff when necessary, especially Outreach Librarian. Responsible for Weekly Press release and for adding content to the library's webpage, Facebook, and google calendar. Promotes a positive image of the library, reading and services available. Attends meetings and conventions as required. Preforms related work as requited
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Extensive knowledge of the principles, practices, and methods of library science including general reference, classification, cataloging, and children’s services. Ability to plan, organize, and present library programs, perform professional duties, direct personnel and volunteers, communicate well both in writing and orally, and to work effectively well both in writing and orally, and to work effectively with other departments, agencies, and the public.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
One year of experience in a library environment. Master's degree in Library Science from a college or university accredited by the American Library Association or Bachelor’s degree. MLIS is strongly encouraged or at least 5 years of comparable experience.
