SALARY
: 2023 $41,751 2024 $42,586 NYS Retirement; Health, Dental and Vision Benefits; Paid time off; CSEA Union option
LOCATION
: City of Saratoga Springs NY - Department of Public Works
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The following qualification(s) MUST be met and clearly stated on the City of Saratoga Springs employment application form:
Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma
and two (2) years of full-time paid experience that involved the assembly and dis-assembly of electronic and/or electrical equipment or the repair of mechanisms containing small parts
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Must possess a valid NYS Driver’s License and must maintain said license for the duration of employment.
PLEASE NOTE: Walking for long periods of time, standing for long periods of time, bending, lifting approximately 30+ pounds, climbing stairs, driving a City vehicle; Working outside in all weather conditions.
DUTIES
: This position exists in the City Water Department and involves responsibility for reading water meters, recording amounts of water consumption, meter installation, repair and maintenance duties. The work is performed under the direct supervision of the Water Meter Service Worker Supervisor and general supervision of the Water Meter Accounts Supervisor following prescribed procedures. The incumbent does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITES

- Reads water meters in private dwellings, public buildings and commercial establishments;
- Records and computes amount of water consumption;
- Disassembles, tests and repairs defective water meters;
- Removes and replaces defective meters;
- Repairs minor leaks related to meter installation;
- Participates in installation and repairing water meters;
- Works with billing department investigating high water consumption and billing complaints;
- Checks on suspected misuse or tampering of meters or bypass plumbing;
- Participates in the location of water leaks, inspects piping and advises property owners of defective piping;
- Related work as required

A provisional appointment is pending the appropriate NYS Civil Service Exam announced and administered locally. The provisional appointee will be required to sign up to take the exam once it is announced, pay the exam fee (or fee waiver if applicable), pass the exam and rank in the top three (3) grades to secure a permanent appointment*
