Ever wondered what it would be like to work for one of the biggest Police Forces in the UK? Exciting, challenging, thought-provoking and rewarding are just some of the ways we would describe it. And that’s not just the Police Officers. Here at Northumbria Police, we’ve got almost 2000 police staff working behind the scenes to make our community a safe place to live, work and visit. Fancy joining us on a journey to prevent crime and protect our communities? That journey starts here…

We have a fantastic opportunity to join our Vetting Unit as a Vetting Administrator. Our busy team carries out and investigates vetting for all new colleagues joining the Force, contractors, volunteers, partnership workers and current employees. We make difficult decisions that protect our Force and maintain public trust – ensuring that we operate with the utmost integrity and professionalism.

We’re looking for a self-motivated individual to add to our team. This is a varied role where you’ll be undertaking a range of clerical and word processing duties which support the team to deliver exceptional service across the force. You will contribute to meeting our busy policing plans and meeting service level agreements.

You’ll be an extremely organised individual who thrives on working in a busy environment, often under pressure to meet tight timescales. You’ll be reliable and able to work well independently and in a team. This is a great opportunity to experience another area of our Force that plays an integral part in meeting the high standards required of us all.

What will I be doing?

  • Updating documents and using simple spreadsheets for data input
  • Ensuring information is stored accurately on local databases
  • Carrying out clerical and administration duties
  • Answering and responding to telephone queries and redirecting where required
  • Sorting and distributing items of internal mail

What skills / qualities do I need?

  • Strong planning and organisation skills – you’ll have a busy workload that will need to prioritise and deliver on.
  • You’ll need to have good attention to detail and accuracy in your work
  • Be a confident communicator, both orally and in writing
  • Possess and maintain high levels of integrity and confidentiality, demonstrating a responsible attitude towards information gathered
  • You’ll be good at working as part of a team but also able to adapt to working alone and to time scale targets
