Vacancy - VAT Analyst

Location - London or Peterborough (Hybrid)

You will be responsible for assisting indirect tax compliance and reporting for the Dow Jones EMEA business and provide support to the News UK indirect tax compliance team. You will work with the Senior Managers for Indirect Tax for Dow Jones and News UK. You will work with external third parties where compliance is outsourced. You will work with the other NewsCorp tax teams in the UK, to ensure knowledge and best practices are shared.

You will assist the Senior Manager Indirect Tax with implementing strategies to mitigate risk and maximise opportunity. You will support the Indirect Tax Senior Manager in their role as proactive tax advisor and partner to all departments, including, Finance Legal, HR, Sales, Accounts Payable and IT on the UK site.

You Will:

• Prepare month end VAT reporting including extracting data from SAP, Peoplesoft and other support systems
• Prepare and submit UK VAT returns
• Prepare and provide VAT reporting data to third-party providers for multiple jurisdictions (EMEA & International) VAT compliance in the agreed format and following monthly compliance schedule
• Reconcile VAT and expense general ledger codes
• Assist with the provision of VAT guidance and training to team members of Dow Jones.
• Review tax coding set up within the billing and commerce systems
• Work with accounts payable, billing, finance and disputes teams on indirect tax related issues
• Ensure all VAT adjustments that are not posted but supplied within the VAT return periods are verified, accounted for and posted to the respective VAT codes
• Following the submission of the returns ensure all VAT ledgers are cleared promptly and reflect the correct payment allocations by entity and VAT code
• Ensure payments on account and other indirect tax payments are made by the due dates
• Use the VIES or other appropriate tool to validate EU VAT numbers and where applicable, collaborate with client service teams to update invalid VAT numbers
• Continuously maintain and improve a VAT control programme and checklist
• Maintain and update detailed VAT compliance process procedures on an ongoing basis
• Support Senior Manager Indirect Tax in carrying out technical research or other matters

You Have:

• Ability to work under pressure, and deliver to deadlines
• Experience using complex ERP systems
• Analyse and assimilate large volumes of data
• Numerate and comfortable in communicating both verbally and orally to all partners
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to develop good working relationships with the wider business outside the Tax Team
• The ability to work well within the Dow Jones and wider NewsCorp tax team

The Team: We are the Dow Jones Tax Team. We form part of the larger global News Corp network for the UK organisation's in-house finance function, and we are part of the NewsCorp global tax team. The team is responsible for all aspects of Dow Jones internal tax affairs, covering corporate tax, overseas tax, VAT, employment tax and the personal tax affairs Exec Directors.
