The City of Phoenix Water Services Department, one of the nation's largest potable water utilities, treats and delivers safe, reliable drinking water to 1.5 million customers across approximately 540 square miles. Phoenix Water Services also manages the sewer collection system and treats wastewater for 2.5 million residents in metropolitan Phoenix.

The Utility Helper position assists with the repair of mechanical equipment such as motors, sludge removal machines, chemical feeders, blowers, coolers air compressors and equipment in a water or wastewater treatment plant. This position also operates broom trucks, front-end loaders, or similar equipment, cleans equipment, work areas for safety of staff and maintenance of buildings, and completes paperwork documentation.

SALARY


$16.50 (minimum) - $20.64 (maximum) hourly / $34,320.00 - $42,931.20 annually. Candidates may be hired up to $42,931.20 depending upon qualifications.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • One year of skilled experience in maintenance or construction work (or one year at the level of Semiskilled Worker).
  • Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.

  • Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS


The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:

  • Experience with hand and power tools.
  • Experience performing plumbing repairs.
  • Experience with inventory management.
  • Experience with painting and coating work.
  • Experience with Word and Excel.

The following may also be required:

  • Working outside in a variety of environmental extremes such as heat, cold, rain, air pollution, and dust.
  • Working at heights of 30+ feet above ground and work in high noise environments.
  • Repairing equipment in small, cramped areas.
  • Traveling across rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces at a treatment plant to access equipment that requires repair.
  • Moving objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
