Job description
Under direct supervision and instruction, performs routine tasks on the unit. Assist members of the nursing team in preparation for patient admissions, transfers, & discharges. Assists and performs direct patient observation as needed.
Characteristics duties and responsibilities:
- Assist with meal set up (cutting food, opening packaged food)
- Assist RNs and NAs with turning/boosting patients
- Can obtain supplies for a patient to perform their own activities of daily living
- Providing companionship during mealtime and encouragement to eat/drink
- Ask the NA or RN about appropriate distraction activities (card games, movies) for the patient
- Assist patients with CHG treatments and/or bed baths
- Notify NA or RN to document in Epic
- Talk to the patient
- Stock supplies
- Perform glucometer readings (Nova Meter)
- Assist with ambulation for stand by assistance patients
- Care for patients with sitter responsibilities due to risk for falling or in medical restraints
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to follow lift and move equipment
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality
- Ability to provide care with regards to patient condition and age
- Knowledge of principles of sanitation and health hazards
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships
- Ability to communicate with staff, students, and the public
