Salary Range: $ 76,248 – $113,064 Annually*

This is a telework/hybrid position. The candidate of choice must be able to travel to Tumwater, WA weekly. Additional travel may be required.

If so, the Washington State Department of Corrections (DOC) Transition Network Engineer (IT Network and Telecom Senior Specialist) position may be your next career move! The goal of this role is to provide advanced technical engineering expertise in network design, engineering and continuous service improvement in support of Data Networking.

The Transition Network Engineer role will be tasked with implementing various sized projects utilizing various technologies ranging from Cloud Providers, Data Center equipment, Firewall, and LAN equipment impacting the agency core network architecture for wide area, campus, cloud and data center networks. This critical work will support all DOC locations, processes, and other aspects of technology service management efforts.

By engineering and supporting highly available infrastructure, this position helps maintain core correctional operations and improves business practices and performance in support of the agency mission of improving public safety. The candidate of choice will be a technical engineer in data networking, wide area networks, troubleshooting, and firewalls.

The Transitional Network Engineer ensures that the infrastructure supporting the DOC is stable, well designed, highly available and properly integrated to be aligned with industry best practices in addition to encompassing all elements relevant to technology service design, engineering, and implementation.

Duties

As a Transition Network Engineer, some of your duties will include:
  • Performing technical engineering/integration to include:
    • Defining, documenting, integrating and building highly complex data network configuration
    • Writing procedures and applying advanced network engineering based on high level data network architecture designs
    • Performing multifaceted and critical changes
    • Developing configuration build documents, procedures, and other required system documentation
    • Gathering, analyzing, storing, and sharing knowledge and information
  • Reviewing services regularly looking for continual service improvement opportunities to include:
    • Determining what should and can be measured
    • Gathering, processing, analyzing, presenting and using data and recommending corrective actions to be implemented
    • Reporting on the strategic results achieved and any developments
    • Providing information and expert recommendations
  • The Data Network Services Senior Engineer provides operations support for complex, urgent, and/or mission- critical systems

Qualifications

What we need (required qualifications):
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field from an accredited institution; or associates degree in in computer science or related field
AND
  • Four years of relevant experience
OR
  • Eight years of relevant experience
AND
  • Four years of experience in the last five years supporting data network services within information technology to include enterprise-wide area network, campus, and data center networking platforms and engineering feature and functionality of data networking platforms in a medium to large enterprise consisting of at least 300 network components (routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, and/or other network appliances) within positive span of control*
  • Four years professional work experience analyzing customer requirements and recommending successful solutions*
  • Three years of technical work experience engineering campus and/or wide area networks*
  • One year of technical work experience engineering data center technologies (firewalls, load balancers, overlay networks)*
  • Four years of technical work experience engineering enterprise networking platforms*
  • Two years of project management experience within the last five years managing IT projects and producing project management framework deliverables such as project proposals, project charters, work breakdown structures*
  • Experience may be gained concurrently

What will make your application stand out (preferred qualifications):
  • Three years of technical work experience installing, configuring, and engineering enterprise routers
  • Three years of technical work experience installing, configuring, and engineering core and distribution switches
  • Three years of technical work experience engineering the Cisco UCS Blade based hardware platform
  • Four years of technical work experience administering Cisco IOS
  • Three years of technical work experience administering Solarwinds Orion
  • One year of technical work experience scripting in PowerShell
  • Certifications such as Cisco CCNP
This position may be filled with a six month to one year in-training plan from IT Network and Telecommunications - Journey to the goal class of T Network and Telecommunications – Senior/Specialist.

IT T Network and Telecommunications – Journey Pay Scale:
$76,248 – 102,540 Annually

T Network and Telecommunications - Journey Required Qualifications:
  • Associates degree in computer science or related field
AND
  • Four years of relevant experience
OR
  • Six years of relevant experience
  • Two years of experience in the last five years supporting data network services within information technology to include enterprise-wide area network, campus, and data center networking platforms. Telework Details
This position may be allocated for telework. Work may be performed from your home or another offsite location within the state of Washington using a reliable internet or cellular hotspot service at that time. Employees are expected to perform assigned duties in a safe manner, to take proper care all state-issued equipment, and maintain confidentiality of all information in possession while working offsite. Employees will be required to commute to a Department of Corrections facility or field office as business requires, to potentially include components of the onboarding process. Some offices will have a “drop in” area available, however, a dedicated workspace within a DOC facility will not be provided.
