Minimum Salary : 63,104.00 Maximum Salary : 103,491.00 Pay Basis : Yearly

Position Description


As Traffic Safety Project Coordinator, you will be responsible for the oversight of assigned projects including but not limited to budget, purchases and inventory. You will also develop, prepare and deliver special reports and presentations as well as perform analysis and recommend program guidelines, policies and procedures.

This position administers state and federal transportation funded programs, oversees contracts, grants, projects, and programs to include application, approval, reimbursements, monitoring, audits, and close-out. Work requires contact with governmental agencies, special interest groups and the public to develop programs to save lives by reducing traffic crashes, injuries and deaths. Employees at this level must be self-starters, establish their own work plans and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.

Essential Duties:

  • Serves as a project leader.
  • Makes presentations, develops speeches, conducts and coordinates meetings, seminars and/or workshops on applicable programs.
  • Monitors procurement of equipment, checks against specification.
  • Oversees and coordinates the development and distribution of information.
  • Plans, develops and recommends program guidelines, policies, procedures, enhancements and methodologies.
  • Prepares and evaluates program progress and cost/benefits analysis reports.
  • Represents the Department at various national, state and local committee and task force meetings.
  • Trains Department employees and others in program implementation.
  • Writes internal & external correspondence, reports, lists, forms, updates and memos concerning programs and projects.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's Degree in a related discipline. Relevant work experience may be substituted for degree on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications

Experience: 5 years grant funding administration, planning, budgeting, or working with state or federal funding. (Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated parttime equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis.

Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.

  • Budgeting methods and procedures
  • Applicable contract, grant, funding, project and program processes, policies and procedures
  • Applicable laws, rules, and regulations
  • Developing and implementing programs

  • Public relations for maintaining effective working relationships with individuals and groups, both internal and external
  • Monitoring the status and progress of projects
  • Developing and giving presentations


Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Sedentary work: Lift up to 10 lbs at a time and occasionally carry files/small tools
  • Standing-prolonged periods of time
  • Repetitive Motion-substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
  • Close Visual Acuity-work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading
