JOB SUMMARY:

Turning Point Academy (TPA) is a collaborative effort between the Racine Unified School District, Racine County Human Services, and Professional Services Group. Our program is designed to meet the educational needs of at-risk students who are in need of behavior modification, social/emotional support and academic support. TPA also provides services to special education students who have not been successful in other special education settings or who are transitioning back to the community from out-of-home placements. The program utilizes a philosophy of positive youth development by implementing programs like the Circle of Courage, Developmental Design and Restorative Justice. These programs promote positive outcomes by providing opportunities, fostering positive relationships, and giving the support needed to build on their strengths as well as prevent risky behavior.

The Youth Worker provides educational services to at-risk youth enrolled in the Turning Point Academy. Services provide a wraparound approach that focus on assisting youth academically and behaviorally through therapeutic intervention services, behavior and academic prevention and intervention programs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Interview and evaluate client and parents to complete the intake process.
• Exercise judgment to intervene as an advocate for clients in emergency and crisis situations.
• Facilitate and organize structured group sessions and activities for clients and families for all related treatment issues.
• Maintain regular contact with parents and/or guardians to discuss client progress.
• Maintain open communication regarding client progress with Racine HSD and RUSD.
• Complete proper documentation on a timely basis as per program standards.
• Safely transport clients as needed.
• After training is complete, staff are added to on-call duties to monitor occasional after-hours calls.

LOCATION: Position is on-site in Racine, WI

SCHEDULE: Hours are typically Monday-Friday between 8:00am and 5:00pm with occasional evenings to accommodate families' needs.

SALARY: $19.00 per hour

• Must have reliable transportation on a daily basis, a valid driver’s license and automobile insurance.
• One year of experience working with high-risk youth and families is required.
• Bachelor's degree in a human services related field is preferred.
