Job Title: Tower Technician III – Top Hands

Status: Full Time

Reports To: Tower Foreman

Summary

Role is responsible to assist in the erection, construction, and/or maintenance of wireless towers. Ensure that work is performed in accordance with all safety and quality guidelines and expectations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform work on tower top, looking after all aspects of work while at the tower top, ensuring that a safe, quality installation has been performed, including rigging, hoisting, landing, fastening, loadhopping, etc.
  • Installation of up-top equipment including masts, clamping, bracing, supports, antennas, RRUs, cabling, bolting, assist in shooting proper azimuth within tolerances, labeling, picture-taking, documentation. Assist in gathering all closeout documents are an absolute must.
  • At the instruction of Tower Lead, perform coax, fiber, lines, and hybrid cable installation, connector installation, sweep and testing assisting, weather proofing, color-coding, labeling, etc. connect coax feedlines and jumpers per piping diagrams, and support and fasten adequately for a quality, lasting installation.
  • Do grounding, terminations, fastening, proper bolting and antioxidant use, support of leads, cadwelding as required, etc.
  • Assist on overall job on groundwork including all tasks required to build and install a site per customer specs, maintain safe work environment, daily use and completion of JSA forms, assisting with overall crew work, maintenance of vehicles and equipment, etc.
  • Must continue to work towards training and certifications for tower related work.
  • A plus to know how to read and understand drawings, piping diagrams, job specifications, mounting specs, testing procedures, etc.
  • Assist in the installation of all tower related aspects of wireless cell site
  • Ensure highest level of safety and quality control requirements are upheld
  • Assist in the assembly of monopole, self-support guyed towers, and rooftops
  • Assist in the transmission line and installation
  • Responsible for tool inventory and upkeep daily on job site
  • Other duties as assigned

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to climb and perform work at various heights, up to 500 feet, for long periods of time
  • Must be in good physical condition with the ability to stoop, crawl, bend at the knees and waist, squat and lift 50 lbs.; includes body weight, equipment, tools and boxes
  • Must be able to pull his/her own body weight plus equipment weight up a vertical tower repeatedly for long periods of time
  • Must be willing to travel out of market/state, for up to several months at a time (90%)
  • Must be able to pass any employment screening, testing, and/or checks for employment
  • May be required to work long and unpredictable hours
  • Position requires working outdoors in all types of weather
  • Valid driver's license is a plus

Minimum Qualifications

Technical Skills:

  • Successful completion of safety in rigging coursework required
  • Ability to operate aerial lifts, man lifts and aerial platform equipment a plus
  • Successful completion of industrial first aid and rescue training and possess a competent climber card
  • Ability to read and understand drawings, piping diagrams, job specifications, mounting specs, testing procedures, etc.
  • Must be able to work in a team environment on the crew and be a valued member of the team and the company.


Soft Skills:

  • Communicate in person, by phone and radio with supervisor, foreman and co-workers
  • Must work in a team environment participating in tailboards throughout the day
  • Ability to read, comprehend and carry out instructions
  • Must be able to work with a team, and independently as required
