Scope of Job
Provides patient care and technical skills in the operation of magnetic resonance imaging Equipment (MRI) to produce cross-sectional images of patient’s body for diagnostic purposes.

Description of Duties
  • Performs accurate and proper entries in all operating systems such as PACs, Radiology Information System and the Electronic Medical Record.
  • Prepares patient for MRI procedure by accurately assessing the patient’s needs by reviewing MRI safety sheet to ensure patient safety by providing education on the procedure and how to call for assistance as needed.
  • Accurately enters data such as patient history, demographics, anatomical area to be scanned, orientation specified, and position of entry into aperture of MRI equipment, into computer.
  • Operates MRI scanner for data acquisition, reconstruction of images, and documentation of images.
  • Performs quality control measures for the purpose of ensuring optimal quality images.
  • Demonstrates proper IV skills required for contrast media on all ages and uses power injector properly to ensure safe injection of contrast
  • Performs point of care lab testing as required for safe injection of contrast and ensures that all necessary pre-procedure lab tests have been completed and are within a normal limit for the study contrast.
  • Reviews images being scanned on video display screen to ensure quality of pictures and keys in data on keyboard of camera to photograph images. Ensuring all sequences are performed per protocol for interpretation by the radiologist.
  • Practices accurate and timely completion of scheduled and unscheduled work to maximize productivity. All billing is completed and signed off by attending physician and submitted daily.
  • Ensures all patient records are completed daily.
  • Participates in research.
  • Instructs students/learners after at least one year of experience.
  • Applies professional code of ethics at all times and in all aspects of practice and adheres to all internal controls at the federal, state and UTRGV land reporting structures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervision Received
General supervision from assigned supervisor.

Supervision Given
Direct supervision of assigned staff.

Required Education
Associates degree or radiologic graduate of an accredited radiologic health science program and ARRTR registered.

Preferred Education
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.

Licenses/Certifications
Licensed in the State of Texas. ARRTR registry.

Required Experience
One (1) year of MRI experience or graduate from a MRI training program with a minimum of 500 clinical hours of MRI training.

Preferred Experience
None.

Equipment
Use of all MRI equipment and related equipment to complete patient studies, Use of clinical and standard office equipment.

Working Conditions
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Clinical, academic and office Environment; some travel and weekend work may be required.

Other
Knowledge of health care laws and regulations. Ability to provide patient care, to prepare and maintain records. Tact, diplomacy, discretion, and confidentiality of medical information required in all matters.
