Job Title - Sustainability Manager - Zero Waste

Are you a self-driven with a strong organisational and project management background and are passionate to help drive Asda's sustainability agenda to reduce, reuse, recycle, redistribute more operational waste and redistribute food surplus.

The Asda Sustainability Team are responsible for setting the overall Asda “Better Planet” agenda which operates across four areas: Carbon, Nature, Waste, and Greener Choices. In this role you will report to the Sustainability Senior Manager - laddering up into the Senior Director - and will directly support our work on delivering the zero-waste roadmap. Projects could include but not exclusive to deposit return scheme, food surplus redistribution and other waste and recycling projects. You will play a critical role in driving new thinking across the business, building strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholder teams, suppliers, and partners.

About The Role

Our vision at Asda is to be zero waste by 2025 and net zero by 2040. This role will specifically work on the zero waste agenda particularly Deposit Return Scheme legislation where you will be the subject matter expert and lead communications and act as point of contact both internally and externally. As well as leading or supporting on waste projects including food waste redistribution and future waste legislation.

About You

• You'll have a strong project management track record, in a retail or similar fast-paced environment. You will be comfortable leading cross functional teams and a good understanding of managing moving deadlines, multiple project strands, and critical paths.
• You'll have delivered or supported change in a cross functional environment, by inspiring and influencing others beyond your direct reporting line and have the ability to build strong relations and networks with internal and external stakeholders, charities and suppliers.
• Previous experience of managing data and creating reporting templates. Utilising data to identify risks and opportunities and to develop new ideas and concepts.
• Ability to find creative ways to overcome barriers and bounce back from setbacks.
• Strong Communicator with the ability to present in a clear and concise manner to decision makers at all levels.
• Strategic thinker, able to draw insights from a variety of sources and metrics to provide bigger picture recommendations.
• Strong engagement and influencing skills, with ability to inspire and energise.
• Sustainability, waste and/or retail experience would be favourable, but not essential, but you will have a personal passion for the agenda and be willing to learn on the job.
