POSITION: Student Success Mentor - Part Time

EMPLOYER: Student Choice High School (Yuma)

SUPERVISOR: Primary- Principal; (District Department Oversight- Administrator for Quality Programs)

FLSA STATUS: Exempt


TERM OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Salary varies based on placement within the Non-Certified Compensation Schedule.
  • Full Time employment equivalent to 12 Months/225 work days (Work Calendar A).
  • Part Time employment can vary based on availability of up to 20 hours per week.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

  • Full Time (not part-time) employees receive benefits to include:

  • This is an on-site position with eligibility for temporary telework based on eligible criteria noted in the Employee Handbook and prior approval by the Supervisor.
  • For positions outside Maricopa County, travel and overnight stay could be required for participation in district-level, onsite professional development, training, and meetings at designated locations within the Greater Phoenix area. (Compensation will be provided for travel, food, and lodging).


SUMMARY :
The role of the Student Success Mentor at Student Choice High School serves alongside leadership and staff as a champion and mentor for students needing wrap-around services and an alternative pathway to their high school diploma. This is a dynamic individual that supports alternative education and who strongly advocates for under-privileged and under-served youth and young adults.


Utilizing the National Alternative Education Association’s Exemplary Practices as the standard for excellence, the Student Success Mentor promotes and enhances the overall mission, vision, and culture of the organization; engages in professional development and program evaluation with all stakeholders to foster continuous improvement; adheres to all policies and procedures benefiting the success of the organization and all stakeholders; performs tasks in the development and continuous implementation of a high school program, which promotes the educational well-being of each student in the school.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Primarily serves as a lead mentor and champion to students for completing their high school diploma and pursuing college or career pathways.
  • Oversees the implementation, data collection, and data analysis of the Mentoring/Outreach program and Student Success Plan for designated students.
  • Oversees facilitating the personal, social, and intellectual development of students.
  • Oversees establishing a positive learning environment and responding to the individual needs of students.
  • Supports the Lead Team Teacher and campus administration with team and stakeholder collaboration for the effective implementation of student programs.
  • Provides secondary supervision and support to the Student Success Assistant.
  • Ensures that all activities conform to building and district guidelines.
  • Communicates effectively with all members of the school, district and community.
  • Reacts to change productively and positively.
  • Appropriately operates all classroom equipment.
  • Supports the philosophy, core values, mission and vision of Student Choice.
  • Works as part of a collaborative District/Campus team and projects collegiality and ability to inspire trust.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.


KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of applicable Federal, state, county and city statutes, rules, policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of applicable District and departmental policies and procedures
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with co-workers, vendors, students, parents, the general public and others having business with the school district
  • Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid AZ IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • Experience in using various computers and computer programs.
  • Desire to positively impact adolescents and young adults.
  • Professional experience

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Social Work, Criminal Justice, Counseling, Psychology, Seminary, or any field related to mentoring youth and young adults.
  • Bilingual

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
