JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Sterilize Processing Tech

DEPARTMENT: Dental

SUPERVISED BY: Chief Dental Officer


SUMMARY:


Responsible for overseeing sterile processing/high level disinfection for all sites. Performs and participates in decontamination, cleaning, assembling, packaging, scanning, sterilization, storage, and distribution of reusable surgical instrumentation and equipment. Performs other duties as assigned.


EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:


  • High School Graduate. Successful completion and maintenance of Sterile Processing Certification.
  • Current BLS. CEU’S or equivalent contact hours for re-licensure or re-certification, if applicable. Must successfully complete a competency exam.
  • Must maintain a professional attitude under pressure.
  • Employ correct grammatical English and write legibly in order to complete appropriate paper work.
  • Present a professional image and be able to maintain the highest level of quality patient and community relations in representing the foundation.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Follows proper Standard Precautions while in the decontamination and sterilization areas. Follows the Center’s adopted guidelines for High Level Disinfection/Sterilization.
  • Ensures proper documentation for all sites relative to High Level Disinfection/Sterilization are up to date and appropriate.
  • Decontaminates and sterilizes instruments, medical supplies and equipment, and assembles, wraps and sterilizes trays/packages of instruments.
  • Monitors biological and chemical wash solution to ensure quality and consistency for decontamination of instruments and medical equipment.
  • Sorts mismatched sets of instruments, trays, and medical equipment and makes available for sterile processing in a timely manner.
  • Restocks, labels, and maintains inventory, submits requisitions, collects and distributes instruments, trays, crash carts, and facility medical equipment.
  • Performs environmental maintenance duties and assists in maintaining inventory levels in sterile processing, procedure rooms, and equipment storage areas.
  • Verifies that equipment functions properly, requisitions for equipment maintenance, repair or replacement, and removes defective equipment.
  • Maintains a clean work area.
  • Assists with maintaining established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, and quality improvement, safety, and environmental and infection control standards.
  • Communicates appropriately using good interpersonal skills.
  • Performs additional duties as prescribed by the Director of Nursing, Chief Medical Officer and assigned Medical Provider.
  • On a monthly basis, contact manufacturers to ensure that the facility has most current IFU’s.
  • Has the ability to obtain a sterilization certification within 1 year.
  • Assumes additional duties when necessary to ensure quality health services are being rendered by clinic.

COVID-19

SWLA Center for Health Services (SWLA CHS) has a policy that requires all employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (including any booster shots if required), where allowable under the law, unless they receive an approved exemption based on medical condition, or sincerely held religious belief that prevents them from being vaccinated.

If you are not fully vaccinated, you will be required to have received at least one COVID-19 vaccination prior to your first day of employment and provide proof of your vaccination status on the Orientation Day of your employment. For the two COVID-19 shot vaccination regimen, you will be required to provide proof of your second COVID-19 vaccination within the first 45 days of your employment. In some roles, you may be required to provide proof of full vaccination before you can begin to actively work. Failure to provide timely proof of your COVID-19 vaccination status will result in the termination of your employment with SWLA CHS.

If you are unable to be fully vaccinated due to medical condition, or sincerely held religious belief, you will be required to apply for an exemption within the first 5 days of your employment in order to remain employed with SWLA CHS. As a part of this process, you will be required to provide information or documentation about the reason you cannot be vaccinated. You will be required to have an approved exemption before you can begin to actively work. If your request for an exemption is not approved, you will be required to be fully vaccinated or your employment may be terminated.
