POSITION OVERVIEW

dormakaba is seeking a Sr. Mechanical Engineer to join our Product Development team in Indianapolis, IN. This position is responsible for supporting project design teams by performing and completing work engaged in research and development of mechanical and electro-mechanical commercial locksets and hardware. You will participate with representatives from engineering, project management, manufacturing, quality, test, and marketing in project definition, justification, planning, and execution.
PRIMARY DUTIES

  • Works independently and with peers to understand product design and design intent through study and understanding of 3D component and assembly models and 2D technical drawings
  • Ensures product integrity is maintain with proper understanding of compliance standards and potential product failure modes
  • Supports of external customers, through Tech Support team, with trouble shooting and effective root cause analysis
  • Leads peers and cross-functional groups through risk identification using traditional FMEA methodologies and sound, logical judgment
  • Supports of manufacturing teams with design details and intent, and root cause analysis and corrective action on manufacturing equipment and processes
  • Supports manufacturing process and component manufacturing
  • Supports Master Data with product design options, manufacturing understanding, and assembly operations
  • Ensures all project and engineering documentation is properly recorded and archived using engineering due diligence and existing company policies and procedures
  • Reports project status and develops contingency plans to assure that product development tasks are completed within time and budget constraints
  • Leads and ensures proper execution on all engineering milestone and phase deliverables
  • Creates and reviews test plans, test procedures, and test results to verify compliance with product requirements and quality standards
  • Performs calculations and/or uses computer analysis software to develop, analyze, and refine product models and design concepts
  • Provides technical support and mentoring to coworkers on engineering tools and processes
  • Continually improves design, manufacturing, and assembly processes

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree required in one of the following areas:
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Manufacturing Engineering and /Technologies
  • Mechanical Engineering Technologies
  • Mechatronics Engineering Technologies
  • Master’s degree in related field is a plus
  • Minimum 8 years work experience in engineering
  • Excellent English written and oral communication skills required
  • Working knowledge of SAP or ERP systems preferred

  • Example: Stamping press, Revit Machine, Spot Welding
  • Demonstrated experience with fixture and gauge design and implementation
  • Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical audiences
  • Comprehension of kinematics, statics, dynamics, stress analysis, properties of materials, and mechanism design required
  • Applied knowledge of electro-mechanics and electronics packaging preferred
  • Ability to perform 2D tolerance stack-up analysis required
  • Working knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (ASME Y14.5M-2009+) required
  • Ability to perform DFMEA, DFM/DFA, and C&E analyses required
  • Skills and experience with personal computers and applications which include electronic E-mail, personal scheduling, word processing, electronic spreadsheet, and project management required
  • High level proficiency in 3D CAD modeling & detailing Required - Creo/ProE preferred
  • Working knowledge of CAD Data Management systems Required - Windchill preferred
  • Finite Element Analysis (FEA) experience preferred
  • Ability to solve complex problems using proven engineering methods
  • Ability to be detail focused and accountable
  • Self-Motivated to achieve and drive requirements to completion
  • Detail oriented and demonstrated understanding of due diligence
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and comfortable being hands on with components, systems, and equipment
  • Experience and comfortable in Manufacturing environments
  • Understanding of Measurement Analysis and different methods of measuring components and systems
