GENERAL SUMMARY
The Sr. Manager, R&D - Packaging position has the responsibility of working closely with internal and external teams and stakeholders to identify, develop, and implement new Packaging technologies and applications for the Campbell’s Snacks division.
This includes, primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging and will require an understanding of multiple packaging materials, configurations, and processing technologies. The role partners with cross-functional business teams, including R&D Product Development, Marketing, CCID, and Supply Chain, to evaluate new technologies and applications against the needs of consumers, the brands, and manufacturing capabilities. The role requires coordination, managing, and execution of multiple complex and multi-disciplined projects with minimal supervision, and managing a team of junior and senior packaging engineers.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Identify, evaluate, and develop packaging components and systems to meet business, manufacturing, customer and consumer needs.
  • Collaborate and lead with cross functional partners and Commercialization teams to drive projects forward by researching and developing packaging solutions to meet the consumer and customer’s needs.
  • Provides technical thought leadership for the role of packaging to project teams, demonstrating an understanding of cost drivers, material properties, equipment capabilities, customer requirements, and consumer interaction.
  • Leverage and manage external network to deliver novel solutions that meet the packaging requirements of new process technologies, product needs, and consumer experiences.
  • Identifies and drive cost savings opportunities, looking both at individual component level as well as process improvements and manufacturing efficiency gains.
  • Recruit and staff, develop, and manage performance of team of 2 – 4 packaging engineers.

JOB COMPLEXITY
  • Manages and executes multiple simultaneous packaging projects while developing a working knowledge of technologies. This includes projects related to sustaining business base business, cost savings, continuous quality improvements, and innovation.
  • Creates and drives cross-functional partnerships to identify, evaluate, develop, and deliver packaging solutions.
  • Establishes, maintains, and leverages external network of packaging material and equipment vendors and co-manufacturing partners to identify Packaging trends and technology developments and evaluate them against the innovation goals of the business.
  • Manages and develops package engineers to achieve the goals and objectives of the business.
  • Supports the Packaging R&D Leadership Team in the implementation of key Packaging Development initiatives.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field required. Advanced degree, Masters in Packaging Engineer or related field or MBA, preferred.
  • 8-15 years of experience in packaging development roles of increasing responsibility, ideally in high-volume food, consumer goods, or retail electronics industries.
  • Familiarity with variety of packaging materials and technologies and manufacturing processes strongly preferred.
  • Highly organized with great attention to detail and able to adapt quickly to changing priorities and unexpected requests.
  • Must be able to travel domestically and internationally up to 25% of the time.
This is a Hybrid model for our Camden, NJ HQ! Work from home Monday & Friday & Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday in the office

Compensation and Benefits:
The base salary range for this full-time, salaried position is between
$105,000.00 - $194,400.00
An individual’s base pay depends on a number of factors, such as experience, job-related skills, and relevant education or training. Total pay may include other forms of compensation, such as a performance-based bonus and other short- and long-term incentives. In addition, we offer competitive health, dental, 401(k), and wellness benefits beginning on one’s first day of employment.
