Overview and Position Description - Business Analyst - Energy

The Companies Information Technology (IT) organization is a corporate staff function responsible for Information Technology across the global organization. IT is committed to delivering against the Company's digital agenda by enabling strategic outcomes. Within the organization, there are multiple teams who work together to achieve business value - Business Partners, Infrastructure and Operations, Core Capabilities, Digital Capabilities, Enterprise Architecture and Cybersecurity.

The Business Analyst (BA) is part of the Business Partner organization and works with the business unit and IT to deliver value through new technology introductions. Working with IT project teams and business clients, the Business Analyst collects, clarifies, and translates business requirements into documentation and conceptual design for applications and solutions. The Business Analyst is an active thought partner and application visionary who shapes technology demand among the business community.

The Business Analyst reports to the appropriate IT Business Solutions Manager and works closely with members of IT and the business unit at all levels. The role has responsibility to evaluate computing technologies in use for current or potential applications and will engage with external consultants, other companies, and contractors as needed for business objectives. The Business Analyst has a portfolio of projects, but within that portfolio has flexibility on working style, habits, and personal work details.

The role will involve working with the Company at a global level and across multiple time zones with a wide variety of key relationships and partners in North America, Europe, and Asia.

Specific Experience

This BA role requires specific experience with Supply Chain and Operations solutions and must have demonstrated expertise in processes to define customer and consumer focused capabilities. Experience required:


  • Operations and Manufacturing software in a discrete production environment with complex BOMs
  • Supply Chain software, such as Kinaxis, Blue Yonder, Anaplan, etc
  • Knowledge of ERP systems (SAP ERP is desired but not required)
Job Responsibilities
  • Work with business partners to elicit, analyze, and document business requirements; understand the customer journey and define both traditional User Requirements and User Stories
  • Facilitate regular requirement gathering and design sessions with the user community and communicate expectations to the IT development team
  • Negotiate business solutions that satisfy requirements and deliver business value while ensuring consistency with architectural guidelines and security standards


  • Work with multiple stakeholders to assess the impact of proposed solutions, facilitate deployments and minimize disruption to services
  • Liaise with IT project teams to communicate business priorities, translate business requirements into technical requirements and identify appropriate solutions
  • Promote architectural consistency and usability standards


  • Define, draft, and execute test cases; facilitate user acceptance test plans
  • Lead the pre-execute phases of project
  • Other duties as may be assigned from time to time

  • Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively convey information, express opinions, and motivate others to act; tailor communications to the needs of the audience

  • Demonstrate active listening skills - understand what people say and detect what they might be hesitant to say; ask the right questions to surface essential requirements
  • Draft persuasive business case content
  • Ensure proper communication between the business unit and the IT organization

  • Proactively build relationships between associates within business units and associates within IT, at all levels

Education and Experience:

3-5 years' experience in one or more of the following areas: Applications Development, Enterprise Architecture, Project Management, Business Analysis, Product Management, Vendor Management, Quality Assurance, Infrastructure, and Maintenance and Support. Expertise in Supply Chain as well as Customer Experience Management is key. strong knowledge of supply chain best practices. Training in Six-Sigma or other process improvement methodologies is a plus.

A bachelor's degree is required.

This position requires 15-20% travel for up to two weeks at a time since business units have multiple locations globally.
