Job description

Objective: Provide management assistance at assigned unit and train employees for maximum production, efficiency and profitability at unit.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Assist in management and participation of farm production
    • Assist in managing and training employees to follow all production protocols and procedures
    • Monitor protocols to maximize sow production & efficiencies
    • Ensure accurate inventory management of both swine & supplies
    • Monitor feed inventory and order in absence of Farm Manager
    • When requested by Farm Manager, give input in annual budgeting process
    • Learn to analyze financial reporting and assist Farm Manager in making appropriate adjustments to meet and/or exceed budget
    • Maximize the daily tasks of the department to achieve production targets
    • Must be able to send and receive reports and e-mails via computer

  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing at all levels of farm involvement
    • Utilize task sheets and time frames to maintain an organized workday.
    • Create and utilize consistent monitoring of task schedules for both yourself and barn leads
    • Provide consistent shareholder communication for both pig deliveries and vet recommendations (4 week, 2 week and 1 week calls) in absence of Farm Manager
    • Have daily communication with Farm Manager on production, health, and employee issues
    • Assist in training other employees on how their personal performance affects the finances of the organization
    • Give input to Farm Manager regarding employee performance and concerns

  • Ensure farm paperwork is completed accurately and on time
  • In absence of Farm Manager, HR paperwork must be completed on time to ensure accuracy in payroll and that the employee files are updated. It includes, but is not limited to new hire paperwork, absentee forms, evaluations, disciplinary forms and payroll approval reports
  • Work with Farm Manager to ensure completion of all work related injury paperwork and participate as necessary in accident investigation
  • Daily recording of monitored production items
  • Ensure employees are properly trained on how to complete paperwork in their respective areas of work. Submit production records and corrections on time

  • Bio-Security Adherence
    • Set example for staff by adhering to all bio-security protocols and assist in training staff on bio-security and monitoring for compliance
    • Assist Farm Manager to ensure bio-security audit deficiencies are corrected and brought into compliance in a timely basis

  • Safe Working Environment
    • Follow all safety procedures and guidelines
    • Ensure all safety equipment is in place and utilized
    • Learn the accident prevention measures for all areas and assist in training and monitoring all employees
    • Hold monthly safety meetings with employees in absence of Farm Manager
    • Consistently monitor all animal welfare procedures

  • Ventilation Controls
    • Monitor and ensure entire ventilation system is in good working order
    • Regularly monitor the environment to achieve optimum comfort for the animals
    • Monitor ventilation system and controls in the Farm Manager’s absence

  • Facility Maintenance
    • The facility must be maintained and well kept
    • Assist in training and directing staff to complete routine maintenance on a daily basis
    • Communicate non-routine repairs to the Farm Manager
    • Communicate non-routine repairs to the maintenance in absence of Farm Manager
    • Assist in training and directing staff to keep interior of the unit clean and organized
    • Assist in training and directing staff to keep outside of the unit clean and presentable

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS

  • Other duties and projects as assigned by Farm Manager

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor´s degree Diploma Required

4 Years Post High School Education in Agricultural Field


Experience: 2 Years Agriculture Swine Experience


Training: New Hire Curricula I & II

Monthly Animal Welfare, Biosecurity and Safety Topics

Annual Safety Refresher Training


Work

Environment: Agricultural swine environment in rural area

Noise levels that require hearing protection in some areas

Gestation, farrowing, and small swine care processes


Physical

Requirements: Standing, walking and ability to be on feet 8 to 10 hours per day

Frequent bending, reaching, squatting and kneeling

Frequent use of one or both hands/arms to grasp or pull

Frequent lifting of objects weighing 3-20 pounds

Occasional bending while pulling and/or lifting objects weighing up to 50 pounds, or requiring up to 50 pounds of force to move

Occasional bending while pulling and/or lifting objects weighing up to 100 pounds or requiring up to 100 pounds of force to move with the assistance of another person as needed

Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing


Additional

Requirements: Must be able to work weekends

Must have valid drivers license and reliable transportation to get to work

Basic computer knowledge to send/receive emails and reports
