We are currently searching for a dynamic, entry-level Senior Process Engineer – GM Innovation Lab to be responsible for research and development projects dedicated for GM (GM innovation lab).

These projects will demonstrate FANUC s technologies in a lab environment set-up at FANUC with the purpose to develop new system solutions for GM s automation needs. The focus will be new automation solutions that GM has yet to implement. Most will need to be developed in a lab environment and proven out to GM with real world application needs. The end goal is to generate new systems or new process work for GM with the new system solutions developed in the lab.

Sales and process engineer will work with GM to develop a list of desired development solutions and prioritize R&D projects. At times there would likely be more than one development under way in the lab. This person will be responsible for all aspects of lab R&D similar to a project as a process engineer. Other disciplines within FANUC will need to be coordinated as needed in order to test and implement FANUC s technologies. The process engineer will also help work with proposal group when system proposals or process related items are required based on successful R&D projects.

Primary responsibilities will include:

  • Creative system solutions concept with FANUC s key technologies (i.e. hand guidance, visual line tracking, CR, vision, etc.)
  • Define new system process with GM and concept a solution
  • Set-up system solution in lab and test, will need to purchase material to support solution needs
  • Simulations may be required as well as AutoCad layouts
  • Projects that may require a unique approach while managing list of projects to focus in on
  • Work with local suppliers to see if consignment equipment can be obtained for demonstration
  • Support sales with field visits as needed to examine existing process and discus potential new solutions
  • Interact with GM as needed on own in order to move R&D project along in a manner that s consistent with GM s expectations
  • Manage project timing and budgets – assume role as PM
  • Examine high level payback for GM with solution concept to understand if it makes good business sense
  • Define future robotic application process solutions through evaluation of: customer needs, internal capabilities, competitive solutions, technology advancements, and past process solutions
  • Support Project Execution if the R&D is sold as a system via ASG
  • Work with and support other internal FANUC departments (Product Development Engineer, Segment, etc.).
  • Work with ASG proposal group to support proposals for R&D projects
  • Understand GM s specifications for systems

Ideal candidate will have the following experience and education:

  • Bachelor s Degree in Engineering, Robotics, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field or equivalent relevant experience
  • Minimum 10 years experience with robotics or in Automation Environment preferred
  • Experience with industrial robots and/or computer-controlled automation
  • General Assembly, BodyShop and/or Powertrain experience preferred
  • 10 years robotic systems experience as process engineer preferred
  • Knowledge of Robotic Mechanical and Software
  • SimPro and AutoCad
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Windows, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) skills
  • Must be able to present comprehensive technical evaluations and recommendations to customers and peers
