Suttons Bay Middle School is hiring a full-time Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Coordinator to work alongside our teachers, administrators, and other staff members to support students throughout the school day. This person will be responsible for building upon and strengthening our school-based behavioral health services for students. SEL supports address social, emotional, and behavioral needs of all students. These supports help foster positive environments where students feel safe and supported, and address universal needs related to social/emotional health and well-being. Candidates must be student centered problem solvers with a strong desire to create a positive and joyful learning environment for all students. Candidates must have experience in establishing meaningful relationships and developing a positive rapport with their students, parents and other staff members.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Work with staff to strengthen our school-based behavioral and mental health services.
• Support non-academic needs to remove barriers that may interfere with academic success
• Participate in department, school, district, and parent meetings as needed
• Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues, and parents
• Abide by and maintain compliance with all district, state, and federal requirements

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

• Minimum of a high school diploma or GED required
• Experience in social work or counseling preferred
• The ability to pass a background check
• The strong desire to see all students to succeed
• The strong desire and ability to build meaningful, caring relationships with students
• The skill and willingness to learn and use student support systems to ensure that the social, emotional, nutritional, and health needs of all students are addressed
• The capacity to respond to the individual academic and non-academic needs of students
• The willingness to seek out knowledgeable peers, coaches, and administrators for support and ongoing learning
