Job description
Assignments for the Residential Advisors (RA) are varied and complex, and require frequent communication with the Residential Coordinator in order to maintain a strong and efficient program. Residential Assistants will meet regularly with the Residential Coordinator. RA’s expected to take the lead at program events and activities. Supervision of students in the residence hall areas, study sessions, computer labs and other program activities is critical to the safety and well-being of all summer participants and staff. Regular meetings with another program staff are also required.
General Summer Program Duties:
Supervises students during all program activities and events
On call for night duty throughout the summer program
Provides direction and support for residential students
Encourages students to be self-reliant in preparation for the responsibilities of college life.
Ensures that students get to class, meals and other activities in a timely manner
Enforces the program rules and regulations, consistently and fairly.
Serves as monitor, as scheduled, in the food nutrition program
Provides tutorial help, either by offering the assistance, or finding someone who can
Counsels the students in matters of adjustment to dormitory living, academic problems, and inter-relations with their peers and staff
Helps solve everyday problems, such as lost keys, arguments, scheduling, and roommate incompatibility
Reports malfunctions in dorm rooms to appropriate campus resources.
A positive role model to the students
Participates in student activities
Initiates activities, especially when students are sitting around with nothing to do, even if just a verbal sharing session
Meets regularly with assigned students
Informs Residential Coordinator of any discipline, health or emergency issues that may arise
Participates in staff meetings
Carries-out other duties as assigned
Follows all staff program regulations
