District Position Description

Position Title: Alternative School Monitor

Department: Instruction

Reports To: Principal

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Contract: NOW through May 31, 2022

SUMMARY:


Under the supervision of the Principal, supervises students assigned to the Alternative Learning Center, monitors their activities, ensures their physical welfare, and does related work as directed by the supervisor. They are also responsible for contacting teachers of each assigned student to have work provided


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Other duties may be assigned.

  • Maintains records of student attendance, oversees student behavior in the classroom, updates clerical information as assigned, makes referrals as appropriate, and calls for immediate assistance if necessary.
  • Demonstrates the ability to keep order and provide supervision to students that are assigned to the Alternative Learning Center. Demonstrates the ability to monitor student behavior and deal effectively with misbehavior according to school and district policies.
  • Demonstrates the ability to perform remedial instruction or tasks to reinforce learning initiated by teacher.
  • Ensures that all students have meaningful academic work for the entire time assigned.
  • Exhibits the ability to work with students, check their work for accuracy, understanding and neatness.
  • Is effective in maintaining an accurate accounting of student attendance and equipment usage.
  • Operates general office equipment such as a computer, copier, laminator, and calculator.
  • Willingly performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:


High School Diploma with working knowledge and understanding of child growth and development; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. A two or four-year college degree is preferred.


LANGUAGE SKILLS:


Ability to present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, other employees and/or students.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:


Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.


OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:


Skill in the use of general office equipment such as calculators, typewriters, computers, copiers, etc. Good written and verbal communication, organization, basic mathematical, and telephone skills. Ability to interact with co-workers, students and school staff in a courteous and professional manner. Ability to provide assistance to students with academic work.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, seeing objects/persons at a distance, and ability to adjust focus. Driving is necessary. Occasionally, yet essential to this position, the individual must meet deadlines with severe time constraints and interact with the public and staff in addition to meeting multiple demands from several people. The employee is frequently required to work irregular or extended work hours, direct responsibility for the safety, well-being or work output of other people.

Conducts duties in a classroom environment with some exposure to environmental conditions, primarily due to the outside supervision of students. Physical demands are restricted to office work requiring the lifting/moving of items weighing up to 25 pounds. Job requires the operation of standard office equipment.


TERM OF EMPLOYMENT
:


The terms of employment detailed in this job description are based on full time employment during an entire school year. Conditions of employment are adjusted for part time employees or individuals who are hired for less than an entire school year.


EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually according to Board Policy.
