Responsibilities:

Essential Job Duties*:

*
Supervises direct care of residents and nursing personnel on his/her shift. Assign duties to CENAs.

*
Administers direct care as necessary.

*
Gives and receives shift reports.

*
Rounds twice a shift to assure proper care is rendered in a safe and clean environment.

*
Keeps physicians and families aware of changes in resident’s condition.

*
Assists in developing comprehensive care plans.

*
Administers medications.

  • Administers treatments, including, but not limited to: dressings, catherization, suctioning, oxygen, etc.

*
Maintains accurate documentation of medication administered and care rendered.

*
Completes work orders for broken or malfunctioning equipment and forwards to supervisor.

  • Recommends improvements and offers suggestions as appropriate.

*
Utilizes time in efficient manner, completing duties in timely fashion.

*
Participates in the orientation and development of new employees.

*
Maintains skills and competencies utilized in work areas.

*
Performs other duties as assigned.

*
Other Duties:*

  • Maintains the self respect, personal dignity, and physical safety of each resident.
  • Assists in admission and discharge procedures.

*
Responds to resident emergency call system as indicated.

*
Accompanies physicians when making rounds as needed.

*
Keeps physician and family aware of change in resident’s condition. Contacts on-call nurse when necessary.

*
Provides support and guidance for CENAs. Assists with investigating incidents and providing employee feedback when needed.

*
Makes staffing adjustments when staffing coordinator is not in the building, including but not limited to calling staff in early, calling staff not on the schedule, asking existing staff to work overtime, and adjusting assignments to assure appropriate coverage. Staffing adjustments are made in accordance with established facility guidelines based on census.

*
Maintains accurate documentation of all care rendered.

*
Interfaces with other disciplines to assure continuity of care and services.

*
Encourages restorative care in order to obtain maximum resident independence.

*
Provide accurate and thorough report to the oncoming shift in order to ensure the continuity of resident care.

*
Participates in family/resident Care Conferences as necessary.

*
Attends in-service training and education sessions, as assigned.

*
Reports all incidents/accidents immediately. Reports all unsafe/hazardous conditions equipment immediately. Assures that established safety regulations are followed at all times. Recognizes unsafe conditions and takes action or reports conditions to supervisor.

*
Maintain confidentiality of all pertinent resident care information to assure HIPAA policies are followed and resident rights are protected. Respects and maintains resident confidentiality. Follows all aspects of Standards of Conduct and Corporate Compliance.

*
Utilizes proper use of body mechanics and personal protective devices.

*
Meets or exceeds internal and external customer service expectations and promotes the continuous improvement philosophy of the department and community.

*
Consistently demonstrates adherence to Infection Control policies and procedures in all aspects of performance.

*
Uses equipment, services and supplies in a cost-effective manner.

*
Participates in quality assurance and continuous improvement programs.

*
Demonstrates a positive attitude and willingness to facilitate team functioning.

Qualifications:
*
QUALIFICATIONS*:

*
Possess and maintain a current nursing license in Michigan.

  • Knowledge of State and Federal regulations for Long Term Care preferred.
  • Prior geriatric nursing experience preferred.
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions in English and communicate effectively.
  • Ability to document care rendered to residents

*
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS*:

Frequent standing, stooping, bending, stretching, squatting; must be able to stand/walk for up to 70% of the work day; must be able to lift , transfer, turn and position residents weighing up to 125 lbs. unassisted, or with assistance for a resident weighing over 125 lbs. Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 lbs. frequently, and 50 lbs. occasionally. May be exposed to communicable diseases including the HIV and HBV viruses. Must be able to work paying close attention to detail with frequent interruptions. May be exposed to communicable diseases and must utilize universal precautions. May be exposed to unpleasant and offensive odors, high heat levels, institutional cleaning chemicals, and combative behavior. Must utilize standard precautions.
