Chevron is accepting online applications for the position R&D Laboratory Technician through 2/28/2023 at 11:59 p.m. (Central Time).
The Chevron Richmond Engine Laboratory (CREL) is a customer-focused service group within Chevron that supports client research activities used to develop and evaluate performance of fuels (gasoline/diesel) and fuel additives. CREL conducts engine tests using vehicles, automotive engine test stands, and specialized research engines.
This position is withing a dynamic team responsible for day-to-day operations of the Chevron Richmond Engine Laboratories (CREL).
Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:
  • Operates automotive test engines and vehicles according to established specifications. Monitors all operations and makes necessary adjustments to control systems to ensure specification compliance. Performs diagnosis of problems and makes repairs to test engines and control systems. Maintains adequate fuel supply to all engines and vehicles.
  • Provide technical support on motor gasoline, diesel, & biofuels performance & emissions testing, including organizing & managing technical data files, preparing data in graphical format, and performing routine data analysis & interpretation.
  • Operate standard & site-specific analytical lab equipment & instrumentation testing fuel properties per approved standard operating procedures. Compile & analyze results.
  • Apply specialized tools, methods, and procedures to quantify fuel and additive performance in modern engines and vehicles such as vehicle drivability and octane appetite assessment, visual and borescope rating of engine components using established CRC procedures.
  • Maintain a safe laboratory environment and chemical inventory in compliance with company regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Works rotating (Day, Swing and Grave) shifts.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma (or equivalent).
  • Formal technical training in automotive mechanic/technology (ASE Certified or similar certification).
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Experience working with automotive engines or mechanical systems is required.
  • Excellent teamwork skills.
Preferred Qualifications :
  • Strong mechanical aptitude is essential.
  • Experience working shift work / off hours (highly desirable).
  • Experience working in a technical environment.
  • Monitoring and adjusting process control systems.
  • Formal training in automotive technology, electronics, or automated control systems is highly desirable.
  • Computer skills (Excel, word, etc.) are highly desirable.
Special Considerations:
  • The successful candidate for this position will work exclusively at the Chevron Richmond Technology Center.
  • This is a safety-sensitive position and requires enrollment in a random drug and alcohol-screening program.
  • This is a 24-hour per day, 7-day per week rotating shift position. Occasional overtime is required.

  • The compensation and reference to benefits for this role is listed on this posting in compliance with applicable law. The selected candidate’s compensation will be determined based on his or her skills, experience, and qualifications. Please note that the compensation and benefits listed below are only applicable to successful candidates who are hired onto local United States payroll.
  • The anticipated salary range for this position is $ 63,100 – $ 131,400
