StarCare Specialty Health System (StarCare) is the state designated Local Authority for mental health and intellectual disabilities for Lubbock, Lynn, Hockley, Cochran and Crosby Counties and the Local Authority for substance use disorders for 41 counties in the West Texas region. StarCare is also a Texas Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) and provides adult inpatient psychiatric services at Sunrise Canyon Hospital. StarCare is in search of a compassionate, experienced individual to serve as the Quality Improvement Coordinator for Sunrise Canyon Inpatient Psychiatric Hospital.

The Quality Improvement Coordinator works under the direct supervision of the Director of Nursing and has broad latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Responsibilities include:

  • Evaluating the quality of patient care by monitoring compliance with current laws, process improvements, and implementation of clinical best practices.
  • Conducting new employee orientation and other ongoing education to meet organization and unit goals for the provision of care.
  • Identifying appropriate nursing outcome measures and working with other hospital staff to improve overall quality of care.
  • Completes monthly reports on staff education to ensure 100% compliance.


Schedule: 8am - 5pm Monday - Friday with flexibility to meet the needs of the department.

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and currently licensed in the State of Texas by the Board of Nurse Examiners as a Registered Nurse
  • Two (2) years of full-time experience as a practicing registered nurse in a recognized public health agency, hospital or health care facility

OR

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university and currently licensed in the State of Texas by the Board of Nurse Examiners as a Registered Nurse
  • One (1) year of full-time experience as a practicing registered nurse in a recognized public health agency, hospital or health care facility


  • Psychiatric nursing experience is preferred
  • Must have a current Texas driver’s license and be insurable under the Center’s insurance
  • Knowledge and skill in operating standard office equipment (phone, copier, fax, etc.) and computer with Microsoft Office products is required
  • Must pass pre-hire drug screen and criminal background check
