JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
  • Pharmacy Area Supervision / Responsibilities:
    • Supervises staff to assure appropriate medication management for research protocols (procurement, transfers, and daily operational coordination with inpatient and outpatient pharmacies)
    • Assists in interviewing new Pharmacy Technicians.
    • Oversees training/competency of all Pharmacy Technicians.
    • Assures appropriate staffing in area through adequate scheduling. Maintains team schedules in collaboration with the Assistant Manager.
    • Completes employee evaluations in a timely manner.
    • Initiates corrective action/documentation and escalates as appropriate.
    • Evaluates and compiles personnel documentation in a timely manner.



  • Pharmacy Systems, Quality Assurance, and Project Management:
    • Competently functions as a specialty pharmacy technician in all areas of investigational pharmacy, with staffing responsibilities as appropriate.
    • Familiar with all pharmacy computer systems and equipment.
    • Maintains area equipment through inspection and appropriate service calls.
    • Monitors operational areas for environmental deficiencies and potential safety concerns.
    • Oversees collection of technician metric data as applicable
    • Assures that QA/CQI is consistently performed and documented. Performs audits to ensure pharmacy standards are followed.
    • Visually evaluates needs of operational areas and takes appropriate action.
    • Delegates projects to subordinates or completes the necessary tasks.


  • Leadership:
    • Monitors area workflow to assure that all jobs are performed in a timely manner; adjust or shift staff as needed.
    • Works with staff to evaluate and implement change in the area.
    • Works with nursing, study teams, and other departments to evaluate service needs.
    • Leads by example in behavior and work ethic. Works toward win-win solutions to patient and staff issues or concerns. Demonstrates effective communication.
    • Promotes and maintains a professional work environment.
    • Takes initiative to learn new procedures and begin integrating new procedures into production with minimal supervisory intervention.
    • Develops, records and implements policies and procedures when necessary.

Education

Required: Associates Degree

Preferred: Certificate from an accredited Pharmacy Technician training program.

License/Certification

Required: Current Pharmacy Technician Registration with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP), Certification with the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)

Preferred: ACPE approved IV (sterile products) certification or Certificate Compounding for Sterile Preparation Technician (CSPT), if applicable.

Experience

Required: Five years of experience as a pharmacy technician, including two years in a lead, supervisory or project management capacity. May substitute required education degree with additional years of equivalent experience on a one to one basis. Successful completion of the LEADing Self Accelerate program may substitute for one year of required supervisory or management experience.

Preferred: Pharmacy experience training staff; experience in a leadership role, experience with people management.

Bachelor's degree in business, science, or related field. Five years of experience in medical reimbursement to include two years of program management, lead or supervisory experience.
