POSITION SUMMARY
The Peer Specialist, as an individual in sustained recovery from addiction, provides hope to clients in early recovery and helps them stay in recovery, thus reducing the likelihood of relapse. With their powerful message of hope, combined with the experience of the peer specialist who has been successful in their recovery efforts, these services extend the clinical reach of treatment and go directly into the lives of people who most need them. In early recovery especially, the peer specialist acts as mentor or coach, providing and advocating for effective recovery based services and supports which may include behavioral health and other services. The Peer Specialist, in conjunction with other team members, will 1) assist clients to develop and implement their unique recovery and wellness plans; 2) help clients to meet personal goals for recovery and wellness and 3) educate clients about community and natural supports and how to link to and utilize these in the recovery process. The peer specialist is supervised by a licensed clinician. Services may be delivered in community, in-home or office settings. Transportation of clients may be required when necessary to help clients link to community supports

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma/GED. Must be an individual with lived recovery experience. Must have the ability to obtain and maintain CCAR peer certification. A valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation is required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide education on addiction recovery.

Assist, in conjunction with other team members, recovering persons to develop and implement their unique recovery plans, inclusive of the person’s personal interests, goals, strengths and vulnerabilities regarding recovery.

Actively identify and support linkages to community resources (communities of recovery, educational, vocational, social, cultural, spiritual resources, mutual self- help groups, professional services, etc.) that support the recovering person’s goals and interests.

Provide in-person and telephonic support, coaching and mentoring to help clients meet their recovery goals.

Attend self-help groups and other community supports as needed to help clients make use of the supports.

Transport clients when necessary to help clients accomplish specific recovery goals.

Documentation of activities in client record as required by Wheeler Clinic.

Assist Program Manager and clinical staff as directed.

Assists in professional training, outreach, and public education services as assigned. This may include professional conferences, workshops and training for behavioral health agencies. May represent the agency at community forums or serve on inter-organizational committees as directed.

Continues to develop knowledge and understanding about the history, traditions, values, family systems, and artistic expression of groups served as well as uses appropriate methodological approaches, skills, and techniques that reflect an understanding of culture.

Regulatory and Corporate Compliance Responsibilities
Understands and adheres to Wheeler Clinic’s compliance standards as they appear in the clinic’s Corporate Compliance Plan, Code of Conduct, and Conflict of Interest Policy.
Completes all training in a timely manner as required by state and federal regulations (e.g., Compliance, Fire Safety, HIPAA HI-TECH, Infection Control, Sexual Harassment, etc) and specific to the department and position.
Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state and clinic regulations, laws, and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.

Performs other related duties as assigned
