Well-known Contra Costa Family Law Firm is searching for an experienced family law paralegal to work remotely with our Antioch and Moraga offices. The option is available to work in person at one of our offices in Moraga or Antioch, California. Given the ups and downs of the pandemic of Covid-19 and subsequent variants, we have become a digital firm, using technology to allow us to continue growing and serving our clients. As a result, we are looking for the right candidate to join our team, wherever they live in the state of California.

The Law Offices of David M. Lederman provides legal solutions in divorce and other challenging aspects of family law. David M. Lederman has been practicing family law for over 20 years. Mr. Lederman is the immediate past chair of the State Bar of California Family Law Section (FLEXCOM). He also served as the Contra Costa County Family Law Section President (and is its current Legislative Director). A certified specialist in Family Law since 2001, Mr. Lederman is the current Association of Certified Family Law Specialists’ Technology Director. Mr. Lederman is a frequent speaker and writer on family law and technology issues.

Your Roles:

● Assist attorneys in drafting pleadings, declarations, disclosures, interrogatories, discovery requests, motions, proposed orders, stipulations, under attorney supervision.

● Serve as subject matter expert in all administrative areas of the firm, including but not limited to, file organization (digital and paper), and court filings.

● Support all attorneys and the rest of the team with a high caseload. Ensure projects are completed in accordance with firm guidelines, quality standards, and targeted time frame.

● Meet and exceed competitive daily and monthly billable hour goals.

● Contact court, clients, opposing attorneys, and others regarding scheduling and other case information. Contact and interview clients for information pertinent to the case matter. Perform analysis of discovery for deficiencies.

● Assist in hearing and trial preparations. Review and analyze cases to assist in preparation of cases for litigation or settlement.

● Maintain organized records, documents, correspondence, files for 100+ clients.

● Participate in pre-trial conferences with senior attorneys, assisting/organizing trial binder preparation, and note possible deficiencies in case materials.

What you’ll need:

● Exceptional ability to draft “court ready” legal documents that communicate client legal objectives through pleadings and declarations.

● Enthusiasm and passion for family law.

● Exceptional level of professionalism.

● Excellent legal writing skills. Ability to write clearly and concisely.

● Experience assisting with an assigned caseload and tracking billable time.

● Experience organizing records, documents, and correspondence.

● Demonstrated ability to independently manage a diverse and complex workload while maintaining priorities and proactively anticipating issues.

● Consistent good judgment and ability to work efficiently to maintain client file organization.

● Strong organizational, interpersonal, and presentation skills.

● Mindset that thinks towards efficiency and productivity.

● Experience working in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment.

● Ability to work with competitive tasks and deadlines.

● Ability to listen and follow direction, take great notes, ask questions, and complete assignments within the time allotted.

● Technical know-how and a high level of computer skills, including a working knowledge of Excel, Word, Acrobat, Dropbox, billing software, and other web-based applications to work remotely effectively and efficiently.

● Experience in Dissomaster, Executioner, Propertizer is a plus.

● Experience in LexisNexis legal research or Westlaw.

Required Qualifications:

● Minimum 3+ years of experience working in family law as a paralegal within the state of California. If you are an experienced paralegal, we will review profiles with experience in other realms of law.

● Paralegal Certificate from accredited institution or Juris Doctor

Job Type:

● Full-time (8:30am - 5:30pm M-F) with expected billing requirements.

● Compensation and bonuses are commensurate with experience and performance.
