Paralegal -
U.S. Reproductive Rights Litigation & Policy Two-Year Position – New York
Hiring for two of four paralegals who provide support for team of approximately twenty attorneys conducting reproductive-rights litigation and policy work including: cite-checking and copy-editing briefs and other legal documents; assisting in production and service of legal filings; completing legal and factual research using Westlaw, academic databases, and the Internet; using G Suite programs to write, edit, and analyze non-legal documents related to reproductive rights; and responding to requests for information. Perform various administrative tasks including: printing; compiling binders; completing out-of-office errands; assisting with department finance tasks; maintaining case dockets and departmental resources; tracking litigation deadlines; attending and taking notes at team meetings; assisting with hiring and onboarding new staff; and making travel and meeting arrangements. Paralegals also contribute to the department’s ongoing work to center the communities most affected by laws restricting access to sexual and reproductive health and rights.

The Public Policy Litigation & Law Department (PPL&L) of Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) conducts impact litigation in state and federal courts across the country and provides legal advice to PPFA and Planned Parenthood affiliates about pending legislation, regulatory matters, and activities in an effort to protect and expand access to comprehensive reproductive health care at the national, state, and local levels.
Salary
$65,000, plus comprehensive benefits such as medical (incl. mental health), vision, and dental coverage. This position involves supporting attorneys in fast-paced litigation that can involve unexpected or emergency deadlines; you may occasionally be asked to work beyond typical work hours and overtime will be compensated.
This position is a two-year commitment with an expected end in summer 2025, though a one-year extension may be possible. PPL&L is seeking to hire one paralegal to start by March 2023 and a second paralegal to start June/July 2023.

Requirements/Technical Expertise
  • A Bachelor’s degree;
  • Superior research, writing, and editing skills (knowledge of Westlaw and G Suite not required; we will train as needed);
  • Demonstrated interest in social justice (including, but not limited to, internships, academic work, extracurricular activities, volunteer experience, etc.);
  • Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently;
  • Ability to learn complex tasks and concepts quickly;
  • Excellent communication skills, including ability to accurately and succinctly impart knowledge and skills to others;
  • Attention to detail; initiative; resourcefulness; ability to juggle multiple tasks and prioritize;

Beginning in February 2023, all roles denoted as NYC, DC, or both, will be on a hybrid schedule, requiring at least 2 days per week in-office.
