Position Summary

The Maintenance Technician will maintain all production equipment to support the requirements of Operations. Support the installation, testing, and validation of new production equipment procured to meet the needs of the various production facilities. Perform miscellaneous and routine maintenance on all facility systems, including structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing at STERIS facilities. May include service or repair work on plumbing, carpentry, HVAC, motors, pumps, electrical systems, lighting, flooring, window coverings, walls, and other systems. Experience maintaining vertical boilers, chillers, air handling units, and steam lines desired. Maintain an orderly inventory of parts and tools. Perform basic PLC troubleshooting. Performs periodic inspections of buildings and makes recommendations on needed repairs, installation, etc. Adhere to trade practices and codes.

Duties

  • Perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of manual, semi-automated, and automated production equipment from blueprints, technical manuals, or vendor specifications. Maintenance involves electrical, electronics, mechanics, pneumatics, and hydraulics systems.
  • Recognize and perform machine adjustments to the various machine systems, operational interlocks, sensors, energy systems isolations, and other ancillary inputs to machine controls according to Company safety procedures. Keep others aware of safety issues in work area.
  • Determine corrective actions based on operational and trouble messages provided by Programmable Logic Controls (PLC) Display Monitors or other similar display panels. Expanded PLC knowledge is preferred for growth.
  • Maintain certifications for calibrated equipment, maintenance documentation, machine history, and all other appropriate documentation for production equipment.
  • Assist the engineers with installation, testing, and validation of new production equipment.
  • Satisfy production work order requests with description of corrective action.

Duties - cont'd

  • Routine cleaning of facilities and grounds. Occasionally shoveling, applying salt, sweeping, raking, cleaning.
  • Moving, setup/takedown of furniture and office equipment. Rarely rearrange areas, as needed.
  • Conduct and record periodic inspections, as scheduled.
  • Perform minor carpentry, painting, electrical and mechanical tasks.
  • Work with vendors in a professional manner.
  • Analyze problems with equipment/systems and perform necessary actions to maintain production capabilities.
  • Prioritize work requests with assistance and consultation of supervisor to respond appropriately.
  • Other duties as assigned. This is a 2nd shift position, 2:30 pm - 11:00 pm with some on call required.

Required Experience

  • Minimum three to five years relevant experience (i.e., automatic packaging equipment, instrumentation, electrical, mechanical, and electronics), OR one military enlistment in a related military specialty
  • Associates degree or Certificate in Applied Sciences (i.e., Electronic Engineering Technology, Industrial Computer Technology, Industrial Implementation, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or other relevant coursework) preferred.
  • Must be able to read/understand blueprints, equipment manuals, and industrial standards.
  • Independent troubleshooting and evaluation of equipment failures necessary.
  • Reading, writing, and basic math skills required.
