JOB SUMMARY

Provides scrub, assisting, turnover and stocking for surgical procedures.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Graduate of accredited program of surgical technology
  • Certification as Surgical Technologist (CST) by Association of Surgical Technologists (AST) or National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT). Upon hire, if incumbent has graduated an approved Surgical Technologist program, but has not received their certification; certification must be obtained within six (6) months of hire.
  • CPR Certification
  • 1 year OR experience preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Ability to work independently as well as function effectively as a team member
  • Proven ability to change priorities in a fast-paced environment
JOB DUTIES
  • Demonstrates the WMH Customer Service Values, which are key in providing quality service to patients and customers. *
  • Assesses the procedure and patient to determine that necessary supplies, instruments, and equipment are available.*
  • Sets up the operating room with the necessary equipment, instruments, packs and supplies in adherence to aseptic technique.*
  • Responsible for scrubbing all surgical specialties.*
  • Assures that all monitoring and support equipment is set up and operable. Initiates service requests as needed.*
  • Observes the progress of the procedure, anticipating the needs of the surgeon and/or patient for additional supplies and/or equipment. Demonstrates the ability to function in emergencies and maintain sterile environments.*
  • Passes instruments and supplies in an efficient and safe manner.*
  • Accountable for instrument, sponge and needle counts with the RN Circulator and other members of the perioperative team.*
  • Maintains professional relationships and conveys relevant information to other members of the health care team and patients/families utilizing clear and effective communication skills.*
  • Demonstrates personal responsibility for professional practice and growth by assuring that clinical knowledge base and skills are maintained and enhanced. *
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and utilizes unit and organizational policies and procedures. *
