In this role, you will work under the direct supervision of a professional nurse to demonstrate excellent customer service, collaboration and interpersonal skills with patients, families, and the healthcare team on a fasted paced unit. The NST is responsible for assisting the professional caregiver in the delivery of patient care, transporting patient and/or equipment, setting up and maintaining rooms, reordering, and stocking supplies. In addition, the NST will maintain unit desk area functions such as answering phones, processing admissions, discharging and transferring forms, transcribing orders, assembling patient charts and ordering tests. hours per two weeks), 8 hour shifts on the
DAY shift with an every weekend schedule.

About This Position:
Are you looking to experience a range of different units at UMMC? Then the NST Float Pool is a phenomenal option for you! You would float to 15 different units with different specialties. The float pool uses a self scheduling model, however your weekends would be set.

The Nursing Station Technician (NST) is a hybrid position consisting of both Nursing Assistant and Health Unit Coordinator roles to deliver direct patient care and administrative duties.
In this role, you will work under the direct supervision of a professional nurse to demonstrate excellent customer service, collaboration and interpersonal skills with patients, families, and the healthcare team on a fasted paced unit. The NST is responsible for assisting the professional caregiver in the delivery of patient care, transporting patient and/or equipment, setting up and maintaining rooms, reordering, and stocking supplies. In addition, the NST will maintain unit desk area functions such as answering phones, processing admissions, discharging and transferring forms, transcribing orders, assembling patient charts and ordering tests.
License/Certification/Registration
- Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification required. Ontrack participants much acquire the certification upon completion of the OnTrack program.
- Six months of recent direct care experience in a long term, home care or acute care setting.
Or
- Current enrollment in an LPN, RN or Nurse Practitioner program, and completion of one (1) semester of clinical rotation within the program
Or
- Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire. This requirement does not need to be maintained throughout employment and is not required if subsequently transferring into another Nursing Assistant or Nursing Station Tech
NOTE: Individuals who have completed a Nursing Assistant program and are scheduled to take the NA Registry exam will be granted 90 days post hire to become active on the registry.
