Job Description

Work on a smaller, experienced, cross-discipline team to explore multi technology solutions centered around Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES)

Who we are looking for:

Someone with a manufacturing background, preferable with commissioning and deploying Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) and Manufacturing Operations Management (MOM) systems, who is also comfortable in the IT space and taking a deeper dive into technology. The ideal candidate has an engineering background delivering manufacturing solutions who is very comfortable in the IT and software spaces. This is not a developer position, but the right candidate will need to have some development capabilities in their toolbelt.

In this role, you will work on the Architecture Enablement Team, a small international team of architects, thought leaders, and problem solvers, with the opportunity to work throughout the Information Solutions space. You will work primarily with product management, development, and delivery partners & customers, and will less frequently interact with other stakeholders. This position is MES focused, but will focus on MES in the context of its evolution into broader solutions.

The position will require someone who can participate in discussions querying customers, partners and internal stakeholders about business needs, trends, and requirements then explore solving those problems with existing technology and offerings. Where the capability does not exist, perform experiments, and explore to try to shape the direction of filling any gaps, and work with product management to drive overall platform strategy. You will be exposed to many different offerings and technologies (both Rockwell and third party) and will need to integrate and apply them to solve MES-centric problems. This position requires breadth of knowledge and the ability to synthesize multiple fields into a result over depth of knowledge in one or two fields. For a given problem, unfamiliar knowledge domains may be required (for example, Cloud based technology stacks, Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning), so the candidate will need to be comfortable developing new skills and capabilities in new domains and technologies to apply to their work.

Responsibilities:

  • Works under general direction of Platform Lead, Engineering Lead, and Platform Managers. Will work with other senior architects, clear bridging the space between customers, product development, product ownership, and delivery partners as a trusted technical advisor.
  • Collaborate with customers, internal leaders, and delivery partners in the exploration and implementation of end-to-end business solutions, knitting together solutions with available technology, while driving portfolio improvements.
  • Provide architectural and technical consulting on an as-needed basis to business units and product teams. Assist with critical high profile problem resolution.
  • Develop and socialize best practices and reference solutions to help accelerate time to results for system integrators for our portfolio offerings.
  • Experiment and explore future manufacturing needs and explore new avenues to overcome obstacles by utilizing the latest technologies and standards.
  • Maintain technical expertise in field. Keep current through contacts with educational institutions, professional societies, and technical publications. Maintain awareness of applicable new technologies, processes, and competitive trends.
  • Promote and coordinate technical activities with standards organizations, consortia, government agencies, leading universities, and other Rockwell organizations on a select basis.
  • Conduct tasks in accordance with applicable health, safety, quality, and environmental regulations (state/federal laws, ISO 9001, ISO 14000, etc.) as well as Rockwell Automation policies and procedures.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Legal authorization to work in the US is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience.
  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering discipline, with demonstrated application in manufacturing. Preferably a process industry such as Life Sciences
  • Demonstrated success delivering software centric manufacturing solutions, with a preference for MES or MOM systems.
  • Demonstrated success with Rockwell Automation products and software tools, or equivalent industrial automation products. FactoryTalk ProductionCentre and related industry application knowledge is a bonus.
  • Knowledge of GxP manufacturing processes and familiarity with 21CFR part 11
  • Demonstrated success leading end users through requirements gathering, fit gap analysis, and specification of complex manufacturing related solutions.
  • Experience delivering multi-application solutions to complex user problems.
  • Familiarity in software development and debugging, with languages including Java, JavaScript, Python, SCALA, C/C++/C#
  • Maintain compliance of company certifications and/or training (Safety, Ethics, role specific)
  • Actively staying aware of technology and industry trends by attending industry symposiums or trade shows and/or reading technical papers or publications, as applicable
  • Requires interpersonal, leadership, organizational and written/verbal communication skills.
  • This position is part of a job family. Experience will be the determining factor.
