Position: Medical Director/Family Medicine MD

Reports To: Chief Medical Officer


Job Summary:

Responsible for overseeing the medical treatment and management of adolescent and adult female behavioral health patients in partnership with THIRA’s attending prescribers and Medical team. Additionally responsible for the directing the administrative functions that impact medical services within our programming as well as clinical aspects of the intake process to ensure smooth admit.


Essential Job Duties
:

PATIENT CARE

  • Conduct initial psychiatric evaluations for admitted patients; delegate ongoing medication management to prescribing team
  • Support in utilization review of all patients and conduct all required patient Doc to Docs with third party payers to advocate for patient reauthorizations and promote extension of patient care in necessary program
  • Collaborate with attending Chief Medical Officer, other THIRA prescribers, medical team, and multidisciplinary clinical team to create treatment plans and implement recommendations
  • Communicate with outside providers and patient family members regarding medical information as needed
  • Maintain infection control standards within our facility
  • Maintain thorough medical/medication data for patients in EMR patient charts
  • Order and interpret appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures for psychiatric medication management as needed
  • Support Medical team with patient care duties and maintenance of safe/therapeutic milieu environment as needed

MEDICAL ADMINISTRATION

  • Participate in program development and implementation of all medical initiatives; participate in growth and development of THIRA business ventures from a medical/psychiatric lens
  • Provide oversight and direction to all medical services of THIRA Health programming; ensure adequate and qualified medical staff for clinical services/coverage needs and maintain high quality medical patient care
  • Identify opportunities for quality improvement in patient care and safety; assist in quality improvement initiatives and programs
  • Collaborate with the medical team to update, amend, create and implement medical policies and procedures
  • Create and/or facilitate work groups designed to improve patient care and enhance relationships with providers
  • Oversee and review the physician visit coding to ensure accurate and timely billing
  • Develop and lead outcome evaluations of THIRA Health treatment programs
  • Manage overall operational, budgetary, and financial responsibilities and activities of the Medical department
  • Prepare all necessary/required reports for Executive Committee
  • Provide on-call support for patients and staff as needed

EDUCATION AND COMMUNITY LIAISON

  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with the larger psychiatric/medical community
    • Provide consultation regarding THIRA Health treatment programs
    • Participate in THIRA Health-sponsored/attended events including but not limited to preparation and distribution of educational materials, CE/CME presentations, speeches, networking, etc.
    • Provide continuing education experiences for THIRA staff as needed


MANGEMENT/SUPERVISION

  • Provide effective performance feedback through employee recognition, rewards, formal performance appraisals and disciplinary action/paperwork when relevant, with the assistance of HR when necessary
  • Coach mentor and develop staff; provide career development planning and opportunities to reinforce retention
  • Process, document and approve/deny staff’s time off, ensure adequate coverage
  • Actively engage staff to ensure a cohesive, supportive, thriving culture that supports THIRA initiatives, priorities, and mission

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Attend and actively participate in all required THIRA meetings and trainings; Prepare all necessary meeting agendas
  • Develop, document and maintain role-specific standard operating procedures. Additionally ensure all direct reports regularly develop and update their departmental operating procedures
  • Respond to emergency patient situations – defer to clinicians and contact appropriate help (911) when necessary
  • Adhere and maintain HIPAA rules & guidelines as well as THIRA’s current Policies & Procedures
  • All other coverage, duties and special projects as assigned

Minimum Qualifications
:

  • Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathy in Psychiatry (M.D. or D.O.) from an accredited medical school with board certification in Family Medicine or Medicine/Pediatrics
  • Licensed prescriber in State of Washington with active DEA registration; current license must maintain good standing with the State Licensing Board
  • Must possess active professional liability insurance; must meet coverage minimums per company policy
  • Two years minimum experience post residency as a MD or DO in Family Medicine or Medicine/Pediatrics required
  • Experience in leadership/management related positions preferred; prior experience managing 1 or more employees preferred
  • Prior experience in Hospital Administration role referred
  • Experience working in IOP and/or PHP preferred; experience with Eating Disorder patients in those settings highly preferred
  • Experience in providing short term, evidence-based psychotherapy using CBT, or any model based on CBT preferred
  • Experience with public speaking and/or teaching preferred
  • Must possess strong leadership and decision-making skills
  • Must possess strong verbal and written English communication skills
  • Must possess strong active listening skills with exceptional follow-through on assigned tasks
  • Must be detail oriented, organized, possess the ability to handle multiple takes simultaneously and follow up on actions based on various assigned duties and/or projects
  • Must be capable of working effectively and calmly in a fast-paced environment while maintaining focus on THIRA’s core principles, priorities and patient-centered culture
  • Must be an adaptable self-starter who is able to thrive in an ambiguous and rapidly changing environment while maintaining focus on THIRA’s core principles, priorities and patient-centered culture
  • Must be able to drive results independently but thrive in collaborative environment
  • Must be able to interface with all levels of staff, visitors, healthcare professionals, marketers, and the general public in a professional, sensitive, and interpersonal manner
  • Must be capable of regularly handling highly sensitive and confidential information in a professional and HIPAA compliant manner while abiding by THIRA’s current Policies & Procedures
  • Must possess strong computer literacy and working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • Must be CPR & First Aid certified and/or willing to undergo CPR & First Aid certification process
  • Must have a smart phone and the ability to use MS Teams on the mobile device for staff instant messaging communications
  • Must possess the mental and physical capacities necessary to perform the job duties
