ANDRITZ HYDRO USA operates in a niche market that provides overhaul and rehabilitation to hydro power plants. The work encompasses a wide range of repair, replacement and improvement services to restore dependability and sustainability to hydro power facilities, or to increase capacity and/or efficiency. Projects range in size and scope, but routinely span from component assessment, design, and procurement to site installation and commissioning. Hydro power is recognized as the most economic form of renewable energy, and the company is committed to environmentally friendly concepts.


PRINCIPLES DUTIES:
Major responsibilities are listed but not limited to the following duties:
  • Leads design of various auxiliary hydraulic, pneumatic, and cooling water systems for hydroelectric turbine units.
  • Ensures successful integration with other systems by working with other mechanical / electrical interfacing engineers.
  • Directs and performs drafting work associated with the design of these systems.
  • Creates written specifications for the design, manufacture and installation of hydraulic governor equipment, hydraulic cylinders, pressure vessels and auxiliary systems / skids.
  • Specifies pumps, motors, valves, fittings, oil, instrumentation and the like as required to fulfill contract requirements and industry standards.
  • Liaise with other designers and sub suppliers during manufacture of components.
  • Resolve technical issues related to projects onsite and remotely.
  • Performs component checks as required at vendor shops / jobsites.
  • Assists the Sales Department in the bid for technical issues.
  • Aids project management in technical tasks related to the refurbishment of hydro-turbines and related equipment.
  • Assist Purchasing in reviewing quotes and purchase orders for technical completeness.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, or 10+ years experience in mechanical design of heavy industrial components.
  • P.E. license preferred.
  • Previous experience designing and working on various hydraulic system
  • This is a hands-on design role; AutoCAD proficiency required, NX proficiency is preferred
  • Working knowledge in capital equipment, welding, custom fabrication, and/or piping.
  • Experience designing large rotational equipment is a plus.
