Job Purpose Statement:


Manufacturing Associate III position is a position that can be assigned to any of the roles of the below listed jobs at the manufacturing plant. The primary function of this position is for the employee to rotate between different jobs as business needs dictates- Calender Relieve Operator, Extruder Relief Operator, Mixer Mill Operator, Mixer Relief and Tire Assembly Utility Relief.


Required training will be given before being placed in a role.


Summary of Responsibility for each relief role:

Calender Relief Operator

  • The primary function of this position is to oversee the supplying of fabric to upper and lower calenders. Oversees rubber supply to calenders.
  • Splice product fabric to leader fabric.
  • Check calender rolls and rubber supply.
  • Turn on controls and roller heaters.
  • Turn on accumulator pressure pumps. When calender is ready in all respects, the fabric is advanced through the machine and mated with a top and bottom sheet of rubber. Product samples are taken and thickness measured. Machine continues to be sped up to production speed as long as thickness remains within limits.
  • Will check the computer specs (weight, length, etc. that is needed).
  • Will check the skids of rubber behind each mill machine.
  • Will go to storage racks of rubber if he needs more or different stock.
  • Will make sure he has enough rubber for the mill machines. Will also help to do tread mill machine changes.
  • Will perform change over procedures.
  • Will perform necessary functions with the rubber and the mill machine if there is a breakdown.
  • Must be able to meet the Ergonomic as well as the Physical Base Score for this position.
  • Stand 50 %; Walk 50%
  • Lift/Carry 50 lbs. to 75 lbs.
  • Push/pull 35 lbs. Static push/pull 10 lbs.
  • Pinch minimum 6 lbs.
  • Grasp minimum 45 lbs.
  • Full range of motion required: Cervical, Shoulders, Elbows, Wrist, Fingers, Hands, Knees, and Feet.
  • Working Conditions: 100 % Inside, Moderate Noise, Moving Mechanical Parts, Height, Odors, Dust, Handrails, Protrusions, and Narrow Access.
  • Any lifting over 70 lbs. must be completed with assistance, i.e. mechanical or individual.
  • Exerting in excess of 70 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 lbs. frequently and/or in excess of 30 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.

Extruder Relief

  • The primary function of this position requires the operator to perform three different jobs. The Extruder Operator, the Tread Booker, and the Mill Operator. As the Extruder Operator the operator will direct each tread schedule and provide proper installation and consideration of controlling the extrusion of the tread. As the Tread Booker the operator will take the tread sheets off the conveyor belt and place them in the tread storage books. As the Mill Operator the operator will operate the mills and feed rubber into a mill machine from scrap, breakdown, fork, and gum cushion.
  • Will check computer for tolerance, weight per foot and measurements needed for the run.
  • Will go to conveyor line and measure and check the tread coming by.
  • Will control conveyor speed in accord with specification.
  • Will mark tread on convey or if measurements are correct.
  • Will check to see that cement is getting on the bottom of tread.
  • Will log - catalog number, time, and actual cuts made on the run.
  • Will log how many pieces of tread are booked.
  • Will continually check for adjustments during the run.
  • Will help Mill Operator from time to time.
  • Must be able to meet the Ergonomic as well as the Physical Base Score for this position.
  • Stand 75 %; Walk 25 %
  • Lift/Carry 30 lbs. to 150 lbs.
  • Push/pull 01 lbs. to 10 lbs. Static push/pull lbs.
  • Pinch minimum 6 lbs.
  • Grasp minimum 45 lbs.
  • Full range of motion required: Cervical, Shoulders, Elbow, Wrist, Fingers, Hands, Lumbosacral Spine, Knees, and Feet.
  • Working Conditions: 100% Inside, Moderate Noise, Significant Vibration, Moving Mechanical Parts, Burns, Height, Fumes, Odors, Dust, Steps, Handrails, Narrow Access, and Steep Grade.
  • Any lifting over 70 lbs. must be completed with assistance, i.e. mechanical or individual.
  • Exerting in excess of 70 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 lbs. of force frequently and/or in excess of 30 lbs. of force constantly to move objects

Mixer Relief

  • The major function of this position is to operate mills and send rubber form Drop mill to batch-off mill and control rubber going from batch-off mill to rack to wig-wag.
  • Prepares blocks of rubber by cutting in guillotine cutter.
  • Places ingredients (prepackaged chemicals ) on belt one at a time.
  • Checks weights on computer screen - computer checks each ingredients weight.
  • Occasionally will climb ladder to lead chemical hoppers.
  • May be expected to oversee movement of ingredients into mixing mill and enter information into MRP system.
  • Will check the computer specs (weight, length, etc. that is needed).
  • Will check the skids of rubber behind each mill machine to ensure enough for each mill machine.
  • Will go to storage racks of rubber if he needs more or different stock.
  • Will also help to do tread mill machine changes.
  • Perform change over procedures and necessary functions with the rubber and the mill machine if there is a breakdown.
  • Previews production schedule.
  • Instructs loaders as to what is going to be required.
  • Oversees the assembly and feeding of all ingredients.
  • Oversees supplying mixing mill batch by batch.
  • Conducts all Quality tests, monitors quality and adjusts ingredients to maintain required product standards.
  • Full range of motion required: Wrist, Hands, Knees, Back, and Feet.
  • Exerting in excess of 50 lbs. to 69 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 lbs. of force frequently and/or up to 25 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.

Mixer Mill Operator

  • The major function of this position is to operate mills and send rubber form Drop mill to batch-off mill and control rubber going from batch-off mill to rack to wig-wag.
  • Will communicate with operator on stock that will be run.
  • Will check rubber for non-conformances when it leaves the mixer.
  • Will communicate with Stacker Tender of any problems with the rack.
  • Will need send samples to Operator efficiently and in order.
  • Will do proper 5S in area.
  • Will perform change over procedures.
  • Will perform necessary functions with the rubber and the mill machine if there is a breakdown.
  • Must be able to meet the Ergonomic as well as the Physical Base Score for this position.
  • Stand 50 %; Walk 50 %
  • Lift/Carry 5 to 30 lbs.
  • Must be able to lift bulky objects
  • Push/pull 2800 lbs. (using wheeled carts) Static 60 lbs.
  • Pinch minimum 6 lbs.
  • Grasp minimum 35 lbs.
  • Full range of motion required: Cervical, Shoulders, Elbows, Wrist, Hands, Lumbo Sacral Spine, Fingers, Knees and Feet.
  • Working Conditions: 100 % Inside, Moderate Noise, Moderate Vibrations, Moving Mechanical Parts, Burns, Height, Fumes, Odors, Dust, Gases, Up and Down Steps, Handrails, Protrusions, Narrow Access.
  • Exerting from 35 lbs. to 49 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.

Tire Assembly Utility Relief

  • The primary function of this positon is for the employee to rotate between three different jobs as business needs dictates- Floor Servicer, Tire Builder, and Tire Assembly Set-Up. As the Floor Servicer, the individual will ensure that all shipping and receiving documents and functions are completed in a timely fashion. As the Tire Builder, the individual is responsible for assembling tires according to the assigned specifications. As the Tire Assembly Set-Up, the individual will assemble (Set-Up) all Tire Building Machines according to specifications.

Summary of Responsibility for each relief role:

Floor Servicer

  • Report to team leader for assignments.
  • Will check out forklift.
  • Will unload and load trucks with product.
  • Will “pick slip” get a variety of different types of tires and put on pallet as needed.
  • Will use forklift to move product on and off skids.
  • Will make sure paperwork and records are completed on all loads.
  • Will make sure proper labels and tickets have been applied before shipping.
  • Will do anything else that Supervisor ask to be done.

Tire Builder

  • Will receive SPC sheet containing the check sheet for the assigned machine.
  • Can be qualified on from one to six tire building machines
  • Will check machine for approved tolerances.
  • Will use foot pedal to start machine.
  • Will pull ply sheet down on drum and press pedal to allow drum one revelation (plys from 2-18 according to specs)
  • Will put necessary amount of ply on drum at each revolution.
  • Will put on beads, one on each end.
  • Will use foot pedal to do turn up cycle.
  • Will take tire and place on rack.
  • Will activate machine to do a tread stitch.
  • Will use foot pedal to apply tread to carcass.

Tire Assembly Set-up

  • Facilitates change-overs to completion.
  • Perform necessary adjustments to the tire Assembly Machines.
  • Assist maintenance in maintaining equipment.
  • Remain effective at tire machine functions.
  • Must be able to build a 1st tire after set-up completion.
  • Working Conditions: 100 % Inside, Moderate Noise, Moderate Vibrations, Moving Mechanical Parts, Burns, Height, Fumes, Odors, Dust, Gases, Up and Down Steps, Handrails, Protrusions, Narrow Access.
  • Exerting from 35 lbs. to 49 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.

Ergonomic & Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to meet the Ergonomic as well as the Physical Base Score for this position.
  • Stand 50 % and Walk 50 % of a normal day.
  • Lift/Carry 35 lbs. to 80 lbs.
  • Lift bulky objects
  • Push/pull 50 lbs. to 150 lbs. On wheeled carts. Static push/pull 20 lbs.
  • Pinch minimum 6 lbs.
  • Grasp minimum 35 lbs.
  • Full range of motion required: Cervical, Shoulders, Elbow, Wrist, Fingers, Hands, Truck Twist, and Feet.
  • Working Conditions: Moderate Noise, Moving Mechanical Parts, Static Shock, Burns, Go up Heights, Odors, Dust, Protrusions, Narrow Access, good Vision and Hearing.
  • Any lifting over 70 lbs. must be completed with assistance i.e. mechanical or individual

Education, Experience and Skills Required:


  • High School diploma or GED required
  • Must read, write and communicate in English as it relates to this position & to safety regulations.
  • Must complete training program and meet company performance standards for the job.
  • Must agree to wear proper clothes and shoes approved for this job.
  • Will be trained for this position in-house.
  • Certification as a Forklift Operator
