How you'll make an impact:

The HR Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day HR activities related to the selection, development, and retention of internal client base; Acts as a strategic business partner to senior and frontline leaders on all human resources related issues. Has experience developing, coordinating, and supporting the implementation of human resources programs that support the strategy, goals, and objectives of the organization. Must have proven, successful experience thriving in a fast paced, large retail or Distribution environment.

This role typical reports into Sr. Manager, Human Resources and has one direct report and is based in our Stockbridge, GA Distribution Center with responsibilities for two smaller distribution centers in South Atlanta (i.e., Jonesboro and Griffin, GA).

Employee Engagement & Development - 30%
  • Review and approve accommodation requests, personal & medical leaves; manage return to work from worker's compensation leaves and/or provide payroll information to 3rd party vendor
  • Support organizational restructuring where necessary
  • Lead organization and execution of skip levels, monthly Town Hall & birthday chats with Sr. leaders, ensure follow up on employee issues and Employee Survey Action plans
  • Support and lead employee survey activities and action teams
  • Organize and lead community (Carter's Cares) activities; serve as Light the Night Captain
  • Monthly review and discuss retention with leaders, look for trends or opportunities to improve
  • As needed, facilitate educational activities to include one-on-one coaching

development opportunities, and stand-up class-room facilitation
  • Identify talent and opportunities to develop talent through education, mentoring, or special projects
  • Support all talent development and educational initiatives local and corporate
  • Lead all engagement and recognition programs for DC; partner with other DCs to align programs (Ensure alignment & execution) across shifts for Town Hall dates/format, Birthday Chats, Skip levels) Analyze recaps and summarize themes; work with leadership to address
  • Lead Employee Action Team coordination and follow up needed by management

Employee and Labor Relations - 30%
  • Advise management in the proper application of company policy, procedures, and employment laws
  • Work closely with senior and line leaders to advise on appropriate resolution of employee relations issues
  • Lead employee investigations across all shifts
  • Manage all employee investigations to a successful resolution
  • SME on all Employee Relations matters
  • Ensure consistent practices are in place across all shifts of the investigative process
  • SME on the Convercent process; ensure claims are resolved in a timely manner
  • Partner with Legal Department on HR Training, as needed
  • SME on all DC HR policies to assess and updates; coordinate across other DCs
  • Proactively engage with leaders and employees on proposed policy changes
  • Lead the annual employee survey process and strategies to address concerns to mitigate labor activity
  • Issue final warnings, identify issues requiring exceptions

Performance Management - 15%
  • Drive all performance management initiatives, including goal development, annual and mid-year employee performance appraisals and review process. Manage and facilitate the review board process twice annually (exempt and non-exempt)
  • Manage exempt and nonexempt performance counseling
  • Responsible for working with clients to build impactful succession plans
  • Monthly review with leaders all attendance and take appropriate action of discipline
  • Manage HR Team Scorecard metrics and reporting

Must have:
  • Strong execution and organizational skills, ability to manage competing demands. Demonstrated success with multi-tasking and the ability to adapt to ever-changing environment while maintaining clear focus on all priorities.

  • Proven Leadership - Customer focus driven (demonstrated success in identifying, understanding, aligning, delivering and following-up with internal and external customers).

Preferred skills and experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred plus 3+ years progressive Human Resources Generalist experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Prior experience at the HR Manager level in a similar environment and/or with similar sized client group (600+) strongly preferred
  • Prior experience of Distribution Center/Retail, and/or Customer Service Industry process preferred
  • 3+ years' experience working with Workers Compensation experience preferred
  • PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP preferred
