The Maintenance Mechanic 1 role performs general routine, preventive and corrective maintenance on various systems and equipment.

The Maintenance Mechanic 1 role conducts complete operational and service maintenance and inspection of equipment to insure safe, efficient and economical operation of all areas of facilities.

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire: CFC Refrigerant Certification (Type I or II or III or Universal) preferred Valid Virginia Driver’s License and acceptable driver’s record preferred Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for continued employment: Current CFC Refrigerant Certification (Type I, II, III or Universal) preferred Current Virginia Driver’s License and acceptable driver’s record if required to drive VCUHS vehicles Experience PREFERRED: Minimum of two (2) years of general maintenance experience *Graduation from a technical or vocational trades program will substitute for one (1) year of work experience Previous maintenance work experience in a healthcare environment Education/training REQUIRED: High School Diploma or equivalent Education/training PREFERRED: Graduation from a technical or vocation trades program Independent action(s) required: Demonstrates ability to successfully troubleshoot equipment problems and effect repairs under close supervision. Uses precision hand and power tools, calibration or monitoring instruments, machines and tests equipment pertinent to particular skill. Works with other mechanics in troubleshooting and repair activities as assigned. Deals with problems involving several variables in or from standardized situations. Performs a variety of duties, involving frequent changes of tasks which require different aptitudes, technologies, procedures, working conditions, physical demands or degrees of attentiveness without loss of efficiency or composure. Supervisory responsibilities (if applicable): N/A Additional position requirements: Hours of work may rotate as services to the organization for this position are required 24/7. Weekend, holiday hours may be required. Call back to work and overtime may be required. Age Specific groups served: N/A Physical Requirements (includes use of assistance devices as appropriate): Physical: Lifting 50-100 lbs. Other: Corrected visual activity. Exposure to fumes. Exposure to large equipment and rotating machinery.
