Job Summary:
Under general supervision this position performs various housekeeping and custodial tasks to ensure and maintain proper cleanliness of Pierce College facilities. This position may perform a variety of unskilled routine maintenance work in plumbing, electrical, carpentry, mechanical or related buildings, facilities and equipment work.

Essential Functions

Set-ups and Moves:

  • Set-up, arrange, take down, load, unload, move and transport, furniture, equipment and various other items to and from various locations and for special events.
Custodial Duties:
  • Clean rooftops, roof drains and gutters.
  • Clean and sanitize restrooms and various other locations in accordance with established procedures and standards.
  • Keep areas properly supplied with toilet paper, paper towels, soap and various other items.
  • Clean floors, carpets and other surfaces.
  • Clean spills and other hazards.
  • Dispose of garbage, trash and/or recyclables.
  • Move, empty and/or clean 90 gallon co-mingle recycle totes, as required.
  • Operate recycling and trash compactors. Launder reusable cleaning materials, as needed.
  • Wash interior and exterior windows. Operate pressure washer. Inspect and maintain eye wash stations.
Equipment and Systems:
  • Monitor, mitigate and report facility related concerns and issues related to: structures, fixtures, furniture, appliances and various other systems and equipment.
Other Duties:
  • Assist and support the maintenance, grounds and custodial departments with duties as assigned.
  • Operate utility carts, forklifts and various other vehicles.
  • Operate two-way radios, cell phones, computers and various other electronic devices. Remove snow and ice from building entrances, walkways and parking lots.
  • Respond to and perform emergency functions, as required.
  • Observe and report suspicious activity. Be accountable for assigned keys, tools, equipment and supplies.
  • Maintain inventories and submit requisitions for tools, supplies and equipment to supervisor.
  • May be required to perform maintenance, grounds or other duties, as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Education:

  • GED or High School Diploma.
Required Experience:
  • One year of experience working in custodial and basic maintenance.
  • One year of experience providing customer service to a diverse population.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to use computers for time reporting, email communications and calendar management.
  • Ability to adhere to departmental standards of integrity and dependability; desire to interact ethically and professionally with the Pierce College community.
  • Ability to work effectively and positively with individuals of diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds and educationally diverse populations.
  • Strong organizational skills including prioritizing, keeping track of information or work in progress, ensuring accuracy, multi-tasking, flexibility, and handling interruptions appropriately.
  • Ability to consistently produce high quality work on time and achieve results with little oversight by: arriving for work on time and following instructions, policies, and procedures; meeting productivity standards, deadlines, and work schedules; acknowledging responsibility for mistakes and taking appropriate steps to make corrections; meeting expectations without making excuses. Terms of Employment:
This is a full-time (40 hours per week) classified, overtime-eligible position with Pierce College District. This position is permanent after serving a 6-month probationary period. The primary work location will be at Pierce College Puyallup campus. Occasional travel to Pierce College campuses or sites may occur. Work hours are between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday with occasional evenings and weekend work, and occasional travel as required. This position may be subject to reassignment between campuses or sites.

Salary & Benefits:
The starting salary of this position is $3,024.00 dependent upon qualifications, with periodic increments up to $3,734.00 monthly. However, your paycheck is just part of the total compensation package. There is an outstanding benefits package which is worth an additional value equivalent to about 30% of your salary. Physical Work Environment:
This position requires working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the elements; wildlife, climbing ladders and working at heights as well as stooping, kneeling, crawling, reaching and climbing. Must be able to stand and/or walk for over 80% of the work day. The ability to lift 50 pounds and move 100 pounds or more is required. This position requires the ability to bend; stoop and twist at the waist frequently; reach from knees to shoulder-level frequently and above shoulder-level occasionally; perform repetitive arm/hand motion constantly; constant handling and/or grasping; climbing stairs and ladders occasionally; and tolerate frequent carrying, constant pushing and/or pulling, frequent vibration from equipment, and occasional above or below temperatures; constant exposure to dust, chemicals, and equipment noise can be expected; hearing should be within normal limits to be able to communicate with students and staff; and must have clear vision, with or without correction to constantly notice details. Scheduled hours will vary based on needs of the college. Must be available to respond to emergency situations during the work week, after hours, weekends and holidays. This position may be designated as essential personnel. During inclement weather situations; must be available to report to campus and assist with snow removal/deicing of campus grounds.
