Job Description

We are seeking Long Term Substitutes for the 2022-2023 School year!

KIPP St. Louis Substitute provides instructional coverage for a teacher who is absent for an extended period of time. The long-term substitute will work the regular hours of the absent classroom teacher during his/her absence. The long-term substitute is assigned to KIPP St. Louis Schools based on school needs and is assigned to one school for six to twelve weeks before being reassigned to another school, if needed. This is a temporary position and is based on the school’s district coverage needs.

The Long-Term Substitute will have an opportunity to observe best practices in classroom instruction and education reform from experienced teachers and school leaders at a leading charter management organization Substitute teachers will also consistently reinforce the importance of character building by helping students to exhibit strong decision-making capabilities, personal responsibility, and healthy interpersonal relationships.

Position Type: Full-time, Temporary

On a day to day basis, you can look forward to the following:

  • Provide substitute teaching coverage for teachers within the school
  • Potentially teach one class or small groups of students
  • Execute academically rigorous lessons; following rubrics and administering assessments.
  • Implement classroom management practices that are consistent with the culture of the school
  • Develop an awareness of individual student’s progress and learning needs; relentless focus on helping students achieve educational greatness
  • Willing to offer support to and receive constructive feedback from teachers and administration in order to create a professional working atmosphere that is conducive to change and improvement
  • Help shape and develop a school-wide atmosphere that best suits the needs of our students, teachers, and families
  • Communicate students’ progress toward realizing academic and character development goals with teachers.
  • Enforce and uphold the school’s values, policies, and culture
  • Seek out and respond to coaching to increase capacity to run an effective classroom that promotes high levels of student achievement
  • Build strong relationships and positive rapport with students, families, and colleagues
  • Actively participate in weekly staff development activities and meetings
  • Other duties as assigned by the school leadership team

Physical Demands/Mental Demands/Environmental Factors

  • Frequently positions self to interact with students inside and outside of the classroom
  • Must be able to observe students inside the classroom and school building, as well as outside
  • Daily operation of a computer and classroom equipment
  • Occasional moderate lifting
  • Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written)
  • Frequent prolonged and irregular hours of duty
  • Maintain emotional control under stress
  • Interprets policy, procedures, and data
  • Occasionally endure inclement weather conditions to provide for student safety

The regional office has the ability to move a long-term sub to a different campus.

Qualifications

What YOU bring to the table

  • A high school diploma or GED and Missouri Substitute Certification required
  • 60 hours of college credit and Missouri Substitute Certification preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree and certification in Missouri preferred
  • A passion for teaching in the city of St. Louis
  • Dedication to helping children grow and learn


Additional Information

What WE bring to the table:

Compensation: $145/day for a substitute with Missouri teacher certification.

  • Please note that this position does not include paid holidays or extended school breaks (fall break, winter break, or spring break). Pay is according to days and hours worked daily.
