Fashion Design Program
The CVAD (College of Visual Arts and Design) BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts) program in Fashion Design emphasizes conceptual design, technical design and technology, and apparel industry practices in a skill-building curriculum. As the sole Fashion Design BFA program in the Southwest region, our creative and diverse student population is sought after for employment in the fashion industry nationwide. Recent BFA graduates have gone to work for companies such as Alice + Olivia, Liz Claiborne, Dickies, Dillard’s, Fossil, Sag Harbor, JCPenney, Calvin Klein, Reed Krakoff, Ralph Lauren, Tandy Brands, Theory, Talbot’s, Gloria Vanderbilt, and White House Black Market.
The MFA (Master of Fine Arts) program in the Fashion Design program is based on independent study and serves those individuals interested in pursuing a career in teaching Fashion Design at the university level. Additionally, the fashion design program has an important resource in the college’s Texas Fashion Collection: a unique repository documenting high fashion and style and one of the most acclaimed educational resources at the University of North Texas.
Design Department
The department of design offers undergraduate- and graduate-level professional programs in Communication Design, Fashion Design, Interaction Design, and Interior Design. These programs share a common mission that prepares students to meet, define and reinvent solutions for the fundamental challenges that impact their respective professions in the increasingly changing world. The pathways of study in each program have been designed to help future designers develop the conceptual, aesthetic, analytical, and technical skills necessary to achieve these objectives.

College of Visual Arts and Design
Considered one of the leading visual arts and design schools in the nation, UNT’s College of Visual Arts and Design is home to more than 2,500 undergraduate and graduate students in NASAD and CIDA accredited programs, including the BA, BFA, MA, and MFA in art education, art history, ceramics, communication design, drawing and painting, fashion design, interaction design, interdisciplinary art, and design studies, interior design, metalsmithing and jewelry, new media art, photography, printmaking, sculpture, and user-experience design, with certification offered in art museum education, and a Ph.D. offered in art education. It includes the Department of Art Education, Department of Art History, Department of Design, Foundations Program, Interdisciplinary Art and Design Studies Program, and Department of Studio Art.
College faculty enjoy active collaborations with specialized subject matter librarians, opportunities for teaching and research through UNT library special collections, and partnerships with the university’s Center for Learning, Experimentation, Application, and Research.

Position Summary
The College of Visual Arts and Design at The University of North Texas (UNT) is accepting applications for a full-time faculty position as an open-rank Lecturer (lecturer, senior lecturer, principal lecturer) in Fashion Design.
The successful candidate will teach undergraduate students. Teaching responsibilities will include fashion design studios and the span of the fashion design curriculum. The college’s standard teaching workload for lecturer faculty is eight courses per academic year. Additional responsibilities include mentoring undergraduate students, service to the program, college, university, and the profession, professional development, and continued enhancement of the design department.
The University of North Texas (UNT) ‘s Department of Design is dedicated to fostering the success of its diverse population of faculty and students. It offers a B.F.A. and M.F.A. in Design. The department’s commitment to diverse areas of inquiry is reflected in faculty creative scholarship, design research, and a curriculum that provides students with a broad understanding of the contemporary issues of design and material culture.

Minimum Qualifications
  • A master’s degree in Fashion Design or related area with five years or more of fashion industry experience.
  • Evidence of university-level teaching experience.
  • Demonstrated evidence of a strong commitment to developing, strengthening, and enhancing diverse, equitable, and inclusive experiences.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to teach all levels (upper-division and lower-division) of undergraduate courses.
  • Fluency in Adobe Creative Cloud software for digital product visualizations and presentation.
  • Proficient in fashion illustration techniques, including digital technologies.
  • Fluency in digital product development systems, such as Gerber AccuMark, or other digital patternmaking software systems. Experience with 3D visualizations, fitting, and model development is also a benefit.
  • Fluency in design business systems and product development strategies, including product workflows and systems tracking (such as a Product Lifecycle Management System or similar software platform).
