Applications are invited for a non-renewable one-year Senior Lecturer position in Philosophy to teach courses in the Philosophy minor, as well as in our general education program. Philosophy is part of the Political Science-Philosophy program, within the interdisciplinary Department of Social Inquiry, which also contains programs in Anthropology, Sociology, History, Gender Studies, and a new Public Leadership and Innovation major. Interdisciplinary collaboration is a feature of the department. We are especially interested in candidates who can contribute to one or more departmental and interdepartmental areas of interest including gender, health, environment, and race/ethnicity.

A strong commitment to undergraduate education in both face-to-face and online modalities is essential. Deadline for applications is May 27, 2023. All interviews will be conducted via tele-conference. We encourage applications from people from diverse backgrounds.

POSITION: Senior Lecturer in Philosophy, Social Inquiry

DUTIES:

  • Teach three courses (9 credits) in the fall and four courses (12 credits) in the Spring semester using a combination of face-to-face and online modalities.
  • Facilitates classroom, online and/or laboratory instruction for one or more courses, including assessment of student performance.
  • Develops instructional design and curriculum relevant to a course of instruction.
  • Serves as an initial point of contact for students as it relates to specific course or series content and expectations.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • M.A. or Ph.D. in Philosophy or related field earned by August 28, 2023
  • Area of Specialization in any field of philosophy
  • Ability to teach existing courses such as Introduction to Philosophy, Existentialism, Film and Philosophy, and Environmental Ethics.
  • Willingness and interest in utilizing technology in the classroom and willingness to design and develop online classes.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work with any of the diverse identities and experiences (cultural, heritage, racial, ethnic, gender, religious, socioeconomic, varying abilities, etc.) representing our campus community.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:

  • Background and interest in Feminist, Non-Western, Indigenous and/or Global Philosophies
  • Experience teaching at the University level or potential for teaching introductory and upper-level courses in philosophy, and interdisciplinary contributions.
  • Willingness to engage students in experiential learning, including community-based research.
  • Interest or experience in collaborating across disciplinary borders.

SALARY:
