Fenner Dunlop is looking for a Lab Tech to join our Lavonia manufacturing team!

Job Purpose

As the Lab Tech at Fenner Dunlop, you’ll Perform a variety of laboratory tests on textile fibers, yarns and woven fabrics to ensure they meet specified requirements; Test chemical raw materials and in-process RFL dip utilized in the woven fabric treating process to ensure the appropriate characteristics are achieved before being released to production; Analyze and evaluate test results to determine compliance with quality standards and maintain accurate laboratory records.

Principal Duties

  • Perform accurate and timely laboratory tests in accordance with established test methods to ensure quality and compliance of product, including: Twist Tests, Gauge Measurement, Yarn Crimp, Yarn Counts, Breaking Strength, Adhesion, Moisture, % Solids, pH and Viscosity.
  • Prepare specimens and samples for testing. Set up, adjust and operate various types of laboratory equipment to perform the specified tests, including: Twist Tester, Thermal Shrinkage Oven, Dynamic Test Instruments, Hydraulic Press, Hydraulic Cutting Press, Laboratory Mill, Drying Oven, Analytical Balance, Gauge Meters, Viscometer, pH Meter.
  • Log sample data and other pertinent information. Analyze and interpret test data for specification compliance and acceptability of product release. Enter test results in databases for evaluation and historical analysis. Input and retrieve information using the ERP system.
  • Notify the appropriate personnel of deviations from specification. Issue and distribute non-conforming reports indicating reasons for out of spec condition. Generate customer concession requests for approval to ship non-complying product.
  • Determine priorities and plan work schedule to coordinate with production requirements and material flow. Purchase supplies and maintain effective inventory to enable the laboratory to function effectively.
  • Assist Engineers with design and development projects to support the improvement and advancement of product /processes.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area in accordance with standard laboratory practices, safety rules and regulations.
  • Collaborate with Engineers or other plant personnel to help resolve problems and recommend improvements.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with other departments.
  • Maintain a good attendance record and adhere to the Attendance Policy. Adhere to Company Handbook, policies, and procedures.
  • Comply with Laboratory safety procedures and plant safety rules at all times.
  • Alert Management of any unsafe condition such as chemical spill and/or airborne contaminates.
  • Oversee the calibration program for Laboratory and plant equipment used for verification.
  • Perform System & Process Audits to ensure the Quality Management System is operating as defined.
  • Assist in training other team members.
  • Professional behavior is required during working hours, while on customer's sites and while traveling for Fenner Dunlop business.
  • Perform any other task deemed necessary.

Scope of Responsibility

The Lab Tech is responsible for electrical service and repairs on all equipment used to produce woven fabric.

Required Experience/Education Requirements

  • Minimum High School diploma or equivalent
  • 0-3 years experience in a quality control function or in a related area
  • Ability to work shifts, weekends, and/or overtime
  • Understanding of the requirements of ISO9000 Quality System Standard
  • Internal Quality Auditor Training
  • Knowledge of fabric construction and manufacturing techniques
