Summary
Assisting the Educational Director with administering programs of correlated academic and social education, vocational programs in a privately operated correctional institution.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Visit classrooms to observe effectiveness of instructional methods and materials.
- Evaluates classroom instructional techniques and suggests methods for improvement.
- Assist with establishing and maintain relationships with colleges, community organizations and other schools to coordinate educational services.
- Assist in interviewing and selection of educational personnel.
- Conduct follow-up studies to evaluate the effectiveness of academic and social education programs.
- Assist with the formulation of plans and policies for educational programming and submit them to the Director of Education.
- Assist with reviewing and updating institutional policies for the Educational Department.
- Assist with supervising and evaluating staff on the job performance.
- Assist with ensuring that staff follows all facility policies.
- Instruct classes in the absence of certified instructors.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
- Master degree in education or related field from an accredited college or university.
- Two (2) years of classroom teaching experience.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Thorough knowledge of educational philosophies and practices.
- Posses a valid teaching certificate for the State of Virginia, either elementary or secondary.
- Effective supervisory skills.
- Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department.
