Summary

Assisting the Educational Director with administering programs of correlated academic and social education, vocational programs in a privately operated correctional institution.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Visit classrooms to observe effectiveness of instructional methods and materials.
  • Evaluates classroom instructional techniques and suggests methods for improvement.
  • Assist with establishing and maintain relationships with colleges, community organizations and other schools to coordinate educational services.
  • Assist in interviewing and selection of educational personnel.
  • Conduct follow-up studies to evaluate the effectiveness of academic and social education programs.
  • Assist with the formulation of plans and policies for educational programming and submit them to the Director of Education.
  • Assist with reviewing and updating institutional policies for the Educational Department.
  • Assist with supervising and evaluating staff on the job performance.
  • Assist with ensuring that staff follows all facility policies.
  • Instruct classes in the absence of certified instructors.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Minimum Requirements
  • Master degree in education or related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Two (2) years of classroom teaching experience.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of educational philosophies and practices.
  • Posses a valid teaching certificate for the State of Virginia, either elementary or secondary.
  • Effective supervisory skills.
  • Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department.
