    The State Board for Educator Certification will require all first time applicants for an initial credential to be fingerprinted as part of a national criminal background check. A cost of up to $49.00 will be charged for fingerprinting.

    PRIMARY PURPOSE:
    To guide and educate students with disabilities on subject matter and skills related to employment and skills for the child’s lifetime during the school year that will contribute to their development as mature, able and responsible men and women. This position may be contingent upon funding in whole or in part through state or federal grants.

    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
    • Coordinate work sites procure work sites and monitor students while working on campus or community sites.
    • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
    • Prepare for classes assigned and show written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate superior.
    • Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior and follow policies set by the school board.
    • Maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
    • Make provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
    • Maintain transportation logs and related documentation for use of district vehicles and be able to drive district suburban.
    • Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher aides, job coaches and volunteers and work cooperatively with department heads to evaluate their job performance.
    • Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
    • Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
    • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and in harmony with the goals, establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects and the like and to communicate these objectives to the students.
    • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
    • Strive to implement by instruction and action the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
    • Assess the accomplishments and progress of students on a regular basis, provide progress reports as required and seek the assistance of district specialist as required.
    • Provide or supervise personal care and/or delegated health services, as stated in the IEP. (SHARS)
    • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
    • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administration regulation.
    • Assist administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct and develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure in the classroom.
    • Stay current with standards, changes and policies associated with Vocational Adjustment Coordinators.
    • May drive students to workplace.
    • Demonstrate regular and prompt attendance to ensure a consistent focus on student learning.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.


    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Regularly supervise students during the school year who are working for either pay or no pay and keep accurate records.
    • Manage job coaches during the school year and verify weekly observation records.
    • Provide vision and direction to the job coaches.

    GENERAL QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES
    Education/Certification/Experience:
    • Bachelor’s degree in education or area of major study.
    • Valid Texas Teaching certificate in Special Education 6-12 or K-12.
    • If the employee is a classroom teacher of record, the employee agrees to become and remain “highly qualified,” as that term is defined under the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001, 20 U.S.C. 7801, and by the TEA, to the extent required by law.


    Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
    • Knowledge in Federal and State laws pertaining to work-based learning supported employment and customized employment.
    • Skills in communication; and interpersonal relations.
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects; and use computer and application software.

    • May be exposed to outdoor weather conditions during portions of work day.
    • Needs to move about inside the classroom or campus to monitor students as necessary.
    • Maintain emotional control under stress.
    • Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing.
    • Frequent moving of small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.
    • Occasional requires lifting up to 25 pounds.
    • Occasional prolonged and irregular hours.
    • Ability to understand complex problems and to collaborate and explore alternative solutions.
    • Ability to organize and prioritize work schedules of others on short-term basis.
    • Ability to make decisions which have significant impact on the immediate work unit and monitor impact outside immediate work unit.
    • Maintain composure and professionalism at all times.
