PAINTER 3

POSITION SUMMARY

Proficiently prep, perform bodywork, sandblast, and maintain all equipment used with little supervision meeting quality standards. Will primarily apply primer and paint to all parts that come through the paint department. Also requires ability to rework parts, perform rig touch up, and blend paint. Perform additional duties in the paint department as assigned by the lead or supervisor.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

GRADE 1

  • Maintains a neat, clean and organized work area.
  • Performs all assigned duties in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Performs duties assigned by lead or supervisor.
  • Follows SOPs properly.
  • Correctly wash and sand parts.
  • Correctly identify the need for/apply bondo and seam sealer with some supervision.
  • Properly clean, mask, plug, tack parts for paint with some supervision.
  • Able to identify different basic weldment parts.

GRADE 2

  • Solid level of understanding and practice of applying bondo, then properly prepping it for the next process.
  • Able to correctly identify the need for featherfill and apply it properly.
  • Able to prep and mask parts with minimal errors and/or rework with little to no supervision.
  • Able to understand and follow the flow through the department.
  • Able to perform minor maintenance on all tools in the department and identify when maintenance is needed.
  • Properly apply primer and paint under limited supervision.
  • Properly mix paints, primers, and fillers under limited supervision.
  • Properly to touch up rigs with limited supervision.
  • Consistently meet prep times on weldments.
  • Able to read SOTS and follow paint scheme on rigs.

GRADE 3

  • Able to prep, mask, and load booth with little to no supervision.
  • Able to use SOTS and prints to separate colors and load carts accordingly.
  • Able to apply bondo, featherfill, and seam seal with little to no supervision.
  • Able to identify when and where body work will be required to have an optimum paint finish.
  • Able to mix toners using the paint color mixing system and scale.
  • Accurately primes and paints within allotted paint times with little to no supervision or rework.
  • Able to cut and buff painted surfaces either for finish or rework.
  • Able to properly mask and paint areas that require rework on or off machines with optimum adhesion and quality.
  • Able to rework flaws in paint with zero errors.
  • Maintain consistent paint quality while achieving the required 4-5 mil thickness with minimal rework.
  • Inspect all parts before and after paint, fixing and communicating any issues to the appropriate individuals.
  • Maintain booth and spray equipment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:

High school diploma or equivalent. May be able to substitute relevant, practical experience in lieu of education.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

This position requires a high level of physical flexibility, strength, and stamina, including the ability to: see and assess drawings, photos, and written instructions; audibly hear verbal instructions and mechanical signals; and speak, read, write, and communicate effectively.

  • Must be able to pass a fit test.
  • Occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, equipment, hot materials, moderate to extreme noise, fumes, and airborne particles.
  • Must agree to wear any and all necessary personal protective equipment to include:
  • Eye protection required to reduce risk of injury.
  • Approved footwear required.
  • Ear protection is required.
  • Respirator when applying paint and primers
  • Other PPE as necessary to perform duties
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
