The Glass Materials Engineer is responsible for conducting fundamental or applied research to improve or generate new technologies, coatings, or equipment specific to the end-to-end process of glass bottle production and use. A candidate for this role must have strong accountability, ability to influence key stakeholders, and a solution-oriented approach for high quality executions. This position reports to the Director, Sustainable Material Solutions as part of the corporate Packaging Research & Engineering team.


What You’ll Do for Us:

  • This position will serve as the global subject matter expert in glass materials for global packaging responsible for researching and developing innovative solutions and building capabilities in glass.

  • This role requires knowledge of and ability to apply carbonated glass beverage processing techniques (e.g., batch, forming/annealing, hot end coating, cold end coatings, decoration, scuffing, washing) that enable TCCC to increase market share and consumer experience.

  • This role will provide technical point of view and expertise to build on the iconic glass platform of The Coca-Cola Company while adhering to the World Without Waste commitments

  • This role is a key leadership member to ensure the Research to Experimentation Community is providing optimal thought leadership, strong business value and delivering on commitments to the business from our functional responsibilities. Also, this position will serve as member of the global Packaging Community of Practice

  • The role will collaborate with stakeholders in research & development, procurement, and bottlers by leveraging new technologies, processes, products and/or equipment that deliver new solutions for TCCC as well as build effective information flow between technology and business partners

  • This position will need to build relationships with suppliers and external stakeholders to bring in external perspective to gain access to new processes, products, and/or equipment to build competitive advantage

  • The incumbent requires advanced influence, negotiation skills to ensure clear articulation and alignment with stakeholders at senior levels internally and externally

  • Presents on scientific topics to senior leadership and scientific and non-scientific audiences.

  • Responsible for making recommendations for technology investments today that will enable future success.

  • Gather and organize information under tight timelines to support senior management's decision-making.

  • Identify, select, authorize and/or manage relationships with vendors or suppliers to ensure proper capabilities, conformance with Company standards and appropriate products and services (e.g., ingredients, materials, testing services).

  • Conduct review of scientific or other literature to maintain and improve laboratory knowledge/skills.


Qualification & Requirements

  • MS Degree in Glass Science, Chemistry or related field with 5-8 years relevant experience in process and technologies, preferably in glass beverage manufacturing or

  • PhD Degree preferred with 5+ year relevant experience in process and technologies, preferably in glass beverage manufacturing

  • Deep knowledge of the product development process with a preference for prior beverage experience. Project activities are related to product development innovation, brand maintenance and evaluation of new technologies, all requiring a high level of attention to detail.

  • Product Development: Deep knowledge and practical application of the product development process. Flexible and creative development skills with a strong attention to detail

  • Project Management: Knowledge of project management principles and the ability to apply the principles, tools and techniques to develop/plan, manage or execute projects or work plans to ensure successful completion (e.g., on time, within budget).

  • Building Technical Relationships: Ability to apply technical knowledge and establish credibility with highly technical audiences in order to build technical relationships that will benefit customers or the Company

  • Computer Skills: Knowledge of Microsoft suite of programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), formula/database type systems, and capable user.

  • Basic Organic Chemistry: Knowledge of basic organic structures, reactions, functional groups, and properties needed to understand the reactions of organic compounds in Company products. This includes the understanding of moderately complex principles to problem-solve package or ingredient related issues.

  • Endurance: Willingness and ability to occasionally function effectively over extended periods of time. Ability to be flexible and adjust priorities based on business needs.

  • Proprietary Composition Information: Ability to recognize and protect proprietary information as it relates to formulas and ingredients.
